NFL admits Marcus Davenport foul was a mistake

Marcus Davenport had his NFL debut on Sunday for the New Orleans Saints, and while the rookie defensive end is technically on the books for committing a roughing the passer penalty in the game, the league now admits that it didn’t even happen.

National Football League vice president of officiating Al Riveron said that Davenport was wrongly called for illegally hitting Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Saints should not have been docked 15 yards as a result.

Too little, too late perhaps for Saints fans, who watched their team get drubbed by a division rival to start a season that many analysts say should result in the team winning their second Super Bowl. But it is something for the league to admit their mistake.

They are taking the whole 'protect the QB' stuff WAY too far. I get it. He's the franchise. Whatever, it has altered the game such that it is no longer 'safe' to tackle the QB. If they can't hit him he shouldn't be allowed to advance past the LOS via the run. I have spoke - Roger, make it so...

Horrible rule. I understand driving and spearing someone into the turf. But, tackling and not allowing you body weight to fall on them is impossible. Right after that play. I say Brady get sacked. Hard. Thought there would be 17 flags and the swat team. Nothing. Ridiculous rule.

See, I'm not even upset about the Davenport call as I'm p*ssed about the infamous inadvertent whistle...

...the play where Michael Thomas fell to the ground, got up, untouched, and scored a TD - the difference, with PAT, in the game!!!

If you’re po’d about that I’m sure you’re absolutely livid over our two fumbles. Easily a 10 point swing there..
