Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
1) Lutz needs work. I do not know if it was him or snap , but that was 3pts. not on board.
2) Saints win in OT against divisional should be NFL Network Game of the Week. :-) |
Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
I heard Arthur refuses to give the Refs their Home depot gift cards.

Think back to the Tampa game... we had two turnovers in that game. Today, not one turnover... and we win. If we are clean in the first game, we win also, IMHO, and we're 3-0.

Thomas needs to slow down. If he doesn’t stop, he’s gonna destroy the record for most receptions in a season. He’s on pace for 200

Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
1. Drew Brees was masterful
New Orleans Saints veteran quarterback Drew Brees needed to be incredible, and he was to beat the Atlanta Falcons 43-37 in overtime at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 23). With his defense struggling, Brees put the game on his shoulders and carried the Saints to victory. He directed touchdown drives of 21, 65, 81 and 80 yards in his final four possessions and capped the final two drives with touchdown runs. His final passing numbers speak for themselves: 39 of 49, 396 yards and three touchdowns. 2. P.J. Williams experiment was an unmitigated disaster Fourth-year cornerback P.J. Williams earned his first start of the season, while supplanting Ken Crawley on the right side of the secondary. Rookie receiver Calvin Ridley riddled Williams for five catches and 129 yards and two touchdowns in the first half before Sean Payton had seen enough and benched Williams. The Saints are desperate for an answer at the cornerback spot opposite Marshon Lattimore, but Crawley and Williams haven’t been able to provide it. Ridley, who in the second half became the first Falcons rookie with three receiving touchdowns, finished with seven catches for 146 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter. 3. Patrick Robinson's injury is worrisome The Saints’ secondary issues are bad enough as is, and now they face the prospect of being short-handed in the defensive backfield. Patrick Robinson was carted off the field in the third quarter with a high ankle sprain. After the injury, P.J. Williams played Robinson’s nickel-back role and Crawley stayed outside at corner. If Robinson is sidelined for any length of time, Dennis Allen and Aaron Glenn are going to have their hands full trying to solve the pass defense problems going forward. 4. No Debo, big problem for Atlanta The Saints wisely took advantage of Deion Jones’ absence in their offensive game plan. Brees targeted his backs and tight ends on 16 of his 27 pass attempts in the first half. Alvin Kamara was targeted 11 times for seven catches and 69 yards in the first half alone. Ben Watson (three catches, 54 yards) and Josh Hill (one reception, 17 yards) combined for four catches for 71 yards from the tight end position. Payton said this week the team needed more from the tight end position and they got it Sunday. 5. Taysom Hill's role continues to expand The Saints continue to find ways to get the reserve quarterback involved in the offense. They used him in a variety of ways in the first half. He was used as a blocker in an up-back role on a short-yardage run. He took a handoff on a jet sweep for a 2-yard run. He also was used in motion out of the backfield as a decoy on another play. For good measure, Hill make a nice open-field tackle on Justin Hardy in punt coverage and had a 23-yard kickoff return later in the first half. 6. Saints defensive line came up big when it counted The Saints defensive line came up huge in the final two minutes to force overtime. They pressured Matt Ryan on each of his pass attempts and never let him get a comfortable look downfield. The result: Ryan went 2-for-3 for 12 yards and was forced to scramble a couple of times to avoid sacks. 7. Marcus Davenport makes his mark Marcus Davenport recorded his first career sack in the second quarter to kill the Falcons’ third offensive series. Davenport used a nice inside move to beat left tackle Jake Matthews at the point of attack, then overpowered him to collapse the pocket on Matt Ryan. If Davenport can start to provide consistent pressure off the edge, it will be a huge boost to the defense, which has struggled to pressure the passer early this season. On the play, Davenport showed the blend of power and speed that made the Saints target and acquire him in the first round of the NFL Draft. Link Back to NOLA |
Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
I observe our CBs are not playing well at all
I observe our dline is hot garbage I observe we overcame both and we're still in the hunt. We just beat the dirty birds in OT in their house. How sweet it is! |
Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
Taysom Hill is not a waste of a roster spot.
|
Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
Dline came through in the 4th quarter. They won the game. Without that effort, the secondary would have given up points and we never get to OT.

Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
Saints win away from Superdome.
They can and do and must continue to win away games. I get tired of hearing commentators , "Saints do not win away from Superdome....etc." |
Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
Brees 18-8 against Ryan

Never could understand why Sterling Moore can’t find steady work. We’ve seen him shut down some great WR’s. Obviously it’s a personality problem but right about now I’ll take him over Crawley and Williams.

Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
Being in the Carolinas, I didn't get the feed for the game so I need to ask: Did the LB play improve?
Were the DB's as confused on route assignments as they looked? Did it look like Dennis Allen was making any adjustments to the secondary during the game? |

Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
I see an offense that once again has to score 40 points a game to win. Just like the three 7-9 seasons in a row. If they don’t get it together we will be right back there at .500 . And to think our secondary was supposed to be a strength.
We won in there house. Tough team to beat. Hopefully we take advantage of the dome next go round. Brees is as competitive as ever. |
Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
More of a what can we do to get better observation.
If we're going to play 10 yards off receivers and still get torched with short, intermediate, and long passes, it wouldn't hurt to be more physical and incorporate more press coverage. At least we have a chance to knock them off their rhythmn. What exactly do we have to lose? |
Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
-Saints win!
-Two wins in a row. -Brees, Thomas and Kamara are the best. -Taysom is just a football player. -Watson made a couple nice plays. -Meredith, Carr, Hill, Ginn and Line contributed. -Williams made a key block on the Line catch. -Lutz is a weapon. -Peat just can't get healthy. -Loomis doesn't have to worry about anyone on defense asking for $20 million per. -Davenport contributed. -The run D was solid. -Was hoping PJ would retire at half. -Horrible secondary coaching, schemes, and adjustments. -Robertson still not playing defense. Complete stupidity. -Anzalone is not a NFL caliber LB. -Cheap/stupid shot by Onyemata. -Davis just looks lost. -No one is making plays. Any plays. The whole freaking game. -Time to play bend don't break defense. No big plays. Make them execute for 75 yards. |
Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
I'm not going to lie... on the design qb run with Hill(on the long gain), I thought it was Drew. I was in complete awe and thought to myself "WTF! Someone stuck a rocket up Drew's ass!" Then I realized it was Hill.
Taysom Hill is a heck of a football player. Regardless if it's covering a punt, running the football, blocking, or whatever we have him doing, he gives it 110 percent on every snap. What a good story he is. |

With the game on the line, we found a way to stop the Falcons.
Lots to clean up in the secondary, not named Robinson and Lattimore. |

Sure would be nice right about now to see if Natrell Jamerson or Kamrin Moore could help our secondary.

Yeah, but we had to score 40+ points. Played almost perfect game on offense and overtime win is the result. Turnovers happen and it is unrealistic to always have mistake free game on offense. Decent, not great, just mediocre defense makes this team very dangerous. More possessions, different (more aggressive) play calling, better field position... We have talent for average defense. Coaching is and always was the problem with Saints defense. |
Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
another observation not from the game, but important nonetheless... one of 3 teams to score over 100 points and the only team to let up more than 100.

Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
Unfortunately I already observed most of this vs Tampa.

Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
It's time to see how much Hardee progressed. I am still wondering how J.t. Gray made it over Jamerson. I am starting to side eye Aaron Glenn

Re: Observations from today's dramatic OT win over the FailClowns
My Observations (through black-n-gold lenses):
1. Our defense has weaknesses, and those weaknesses were exploited today, but they still managed to disrupt & make stops at pivotal moments to keep us in the game. 2. Our offense came together today and fought a hard epic battle with a rival opponent in their house and won. 3. Atlanta is stacked with big fast talented receivers that will be a menace to any defense in this league if Matty Ice is allowed time to throw. 4. Yellow flags damn near cost us the game. 5. My New Orleans Saints 2018 team has a heart to win 6. Drew Brees has not lost a step. And today, you might even say he stepped it up. 7. I thought I caught a glimpse today of that "eye of the tiger" "no guts, no glory" Sean Payton I once knew pre-bountygate. |
