5 former Saints cornerbacks land with new teams

The New Orleans Saints secondary has struggled to open the season, and there is little chance of bringing back a player from training camp to help.

Nearly all of them have been picked up by other teams.

Former Saints cornerback and native New Orleanian Arthur Maulet was claimed off of waivers by the Indianapolis Colts on Monday, the fifth former New Orleans cornerback to land with another team so far this season.

Third-year cornerback De'Vante Harris and veteran Marcus Williams landed in Tampa Bay, fifth-round pick Natrell Jamerson is playing in Houston and sixth-round pick Kamrin Moore was claimed by the New York Giants.

Maulet had been released on Friday in order to make room for linebacker Vince Biegel to play a special-teams role on Sunday against the Falcons.

An undrafted free agent out of Memphis, Maulet has played in seven games over two seasons with New Orleans, mostly on special teams.

Considering we’re only three weeks into the season and hoping for Sterling Moore to come save the day... I’d say we greatly mismanaged this.

The ineptitude of all this is what really bugs the hell out of me. What was the plan if starters got hurt? What was the plan if they sucked, wait...I can answer that one, just keep doing same thing..duuuurrrr

The good news is that we still have one really good CB, seemingly working his way back toward elite. The scheme needs to be adjusted (simplified) for the secondary. DA likes all these exotic looks but clearly it isn't working. Let them get back to doing what they did last year and I'd be willing to bet Crawley would start to play better, probably the safeties too. Rez has said it over and over again, we don't have the personnel for the types of coverages they're trying to run. So line them up in front of their guy and let them f***in handle their business, like last year. Losing P Rob is still gonna hurt but them's the breaks. If the rest of the secondary is playing well and the front 7 keeps improving that'll be easier to make up for. Can't have multiple mf's running wide open downfield several times a game. That crap is what'll sink us if it isn't fixed.

If you watch the replay of the TD the Failclowns scored after we gave them another shot by lightly touching the center, our guys can be seen in the end zone, clearly confused about who was responsible for the guy who scored. Just line up and play.

Re: 5 former Saints cornerbacks land with new teams

where is the depth they've been talking about all preseason. dammit I blame Aaron Glenn, those defensive back cuts have to have his fingers on it, either what he said or didn't say. I knew P.J. Williams isn't able to play corner, he is a free safety. I didn't think Arthur Maulet had the speed to be a outside corner but he could've slid in their at PRob's position. I like Jamerson as the 3rd best player from the draft, I admit I wouldn't place him under fire just yet because we still have J Hardee. He have the speed and the aggression to replace Crawley just not the experience. PUT HIM IN!

Re: 5 former Saints cornerbacks land with new teams

Here’s the bottom line. Since Payton has been here our defense has been horrid. So much so it’s taken a team with dynasty potential to .500 team that put out a few great seasons. The defense has been bad but it’s always been the defensive backfield in particular. We have had several members of our secondary find success with other teams. We have gone through several defensive coordinators over the years yet our secondary has continued to suck. The only constant variable here has been Payton. The only year we had real success was with Williams when he had an absolute power clause in his contract. What’s that tell you?
Last year was an anomaly.
Payton is fiddling with things he has no business fiddling with.
In the process he’s ruined a chance for this team to make NFL history.

Might be going out on a limb here but the Arrion Springs signing may surprise us.
