LOOKING BACK AT THE 2017 DRAFT

We certainly wouldn't be 3-1 with Patrick Mahomes but he may be one of the best QBs ever.

Looking back would you rather Patrick Mahomes? Enjoy the game Monday Night game. He will be the Chiefs QB.

Saying the Saints were going to pick him is a bit overstated. A person in the "war room", not involved in any decision making, (an ex-player or such from what I remember reading) said something of the sort. It was also reported that the possibility was entertained, as well as others, but was never any sort of a given.

Payton knew that he had Drew for as long as he wants him (two to three more years at least) and was in win now mode already. A first round QB would eat up far too much cap to be sitting behind Brees in that scenario.

All that said, it will be interesting to see what becomes of Mahomes and his early performances as the season progresses.

Payton said it...

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said on the Dan Patrick Show Monday morning that had their 2017 first-round pick, cornerback Marshon Lattimore, been off the board by the 11th pick, the Saints would have drafted quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Re: LOOKING BACK AT THE 2017 DRAFT

If after some time Drew retires and Sean Payton, Kamara and Michael Thomas are still here quarterbacks of all shapes and sizes will be beating down our fricking door to play here. And it's possible that it's a non-issue if Teddy is the guy is well. I think we will transition nicely and hopefully not go into a post-Marino Dolphins shell.

I missed that, but how serious was that response on the Dan Patrick Show? This was pre-draft 2018 when this interview occurred. They wanted everyone to think they were "still" shopping for a QB. You know that you can never believe ANYTHING a team says prior to a draft. Payton knew those rumors from the 2017 draft were still out there. Why not use them to your advantage.

Right?

No. Even without Teddy, Lattimore was too good to pass up. With Teddy, doesn't bother me at all that we didn't get Mahomes.

I wish you would stop looking back and start looking forward, FF.

Nahhh..don't hurt nothing looking back at if's and skiff's, but I for one am perfectly happy having Latimore. We need to finagle another good DB next yr cause Crawley has got to go!
