McPherson card's quick rise
The best value in last month's NFL draft -- at least according to the sports collectors -- was a fifth-round pick who spent 2004 as the quarterback for the now-defunct Indiana Firebirds.
Adrian McPherson (pictured), who was selected by the New Orleans Saints, wowed scouts with his athletic ability. Many thought he would've been a first-rounder if he had finished his career at Florida State. Collectors picked up on the buzz. McPherson's Arena Football League card from Upper Deck has sold for more than $100 on eBay, drawing comparisons to Steve Young's card when he played for the Los Angeles Express of the USFL. Upper Deck's Don Williams said the McPherson card's quick rise is unusual. "If they come from big programs or have a lot of hype like Eli Manning did last year, their card starts pretty high," Williams said. "But for others, it takes some time." Upper Deck will release its NFL rookie collection, which includes McPherson, this month. |
