Observations From The Saints' win vs Ravens
1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints (5-1) overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Baltimore Ravens, 24-23, on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium.
The Saints are now on a five-game winning streak, but this might be the most impressive victory of the season as they scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter against the NFL's No. 1 ranked defense. Heading into Sunday's game, Baltimore had not allowed a touchdown in the second half this season, but the Saints offense proved how lethal it can be. https://expo.advance.net/img/1b848c1...sravens23.jpeg The Saints almost let the game slip away at the end, but they were lucky Ravens kicker Justin Tucker missed an extra point after John Brown caught a 14-yard touchdown with just 24 seconds remaining. Here are some highlights from the game: What went right: Drew Brees had an incredible game. It was great game for Brees statistically as he was 21 of 28 for 208 yards with two touchdowns with a 119.3 passer rating. More impressive, though, was the way Brees made some of his plays as he evaded what looked like sure sacks multiple times. The Saints defense also played much better in the second half, until the last drive. What went wrong: The Saints' first possession was one of the history books, but not in a good way. It was an impressive drive up until the end, featuring a fake punt and two other fourth-down conversions. Then, on their fourth attempt at a fourth down, a fourth-and-1 at the Baltimore 4, the Saints didn't convert as Taysom Hill's attempted pitch to Alvin Kamara resulted in a fumble that Baltimore recovered. The end result was a 20-play, 69-yard drive with no points. This was just the second time in the Drew Brees and Sean Payton era the Saints had a drive of 20-plus plays. One consistent problem in the first half for the Saints was the coverage by cornerback Ken Crawley, who had issues against Ravens receiver John Brown throughout the game. Brown had five catches for 103 yards at halftime. Crawley and the Saints did a better job locking down the back end in the second half. Thomas had two uncharacteristic drops, and the run game mostly struggled as New Orleans averaged just 3.4 yards per carry. Player of the game: Drew Brees read more on NOLA |

Hard loss for the Ravens kicker... but it is what it is. The Saints have been there before. |

Via PFF:
Terron Armstead thoroughly handled the veteran Terrell Suggs in this one. The Saints left tackle didn’t allow a single pressure all day and did work on the Ravens’ linebackers in the run game. Drew Brees outperformed his stat line in this one, as he simply wasn’t missing on his targeted passes. The Saints quarterback was accurate on 24 of his 27 targeted passes on the day. Marshon Lattimore had easily his best game of the season, as he was targeted six times and only allowed one catch for 11 yards (although he also added a pass interference penalty). He broke up three of those six targets and could have had two picks on the day if it weren’t for drops. David Onyemata quietly had one of the best pass-rushing days of his career. He only registered two pressures but could have had a handful more if it weren’t for Joe Flacco‘s quick release. |

Re: Observations From The Saints' win vs Ravens
We got away with a couple of critical calls that could not be challenged but that is life. The Brees dive, it likely was not a first. There was another pass, think it was Smith. His foot was on the line but...meh..they still missed the XP so suck it. We have lost many, many games with no calls. All they had to do was make the XP and new ball game. Could not do it. They earned the L.

Re: Observations From The Saints' win vs Ravens
The Ravens got some drive saving calls too.
None of it matters because the Ravens would have lost in OT cuz Brees, Kamara, Michael Thomas, Tasom Hill and Ben Watson were unstoppable. |

Ravens Fan: Me either. Tucker has been an absolute weapon and this happened because the wind ripped through when the ball was halfway to the uprights and took it right off course. That was gods way of saying f**k you ravens.
These Fans must be to far North to have ever heard of VooDoo.... |

Not the wind. The flag on the upright was idle. He whiffed it. I went back and watched it and that flag barely moved if at all.

5-1
The offense only stops themselves. Kamara with big runs of 3,4,5 and 6. Thomas with big catches after a slow start. Watson looks like a young TE. Smith is really stepping up with his opportunity. Great job by the O-Line. Not great stats today but Ingram being back is large. Hill is just a darn special football player. Passion, effort, and team. Love the attack mode on the last scoring drive. Need to take the 3 on the first drive. Crawley's body language and effort are not good at times. Too much zone with receivers running WIDE open. Maybe a guard should be on the trade wish list as well as DB's. The Jags should offer whatever for Bridgewater. :) |
Re: Observations From The Saints' win vs Ravens
Said it before and I will say it again, Thomas is an animal. He is so strong and has hands like a hydraulic vice. Incredible wide receiver and should certainly be in the discussions for one of the best in the league.

Saints put up 24 points on the leagues top defense ... on the road.
Extremely difficult to do. I'll take that. On to Minnesota. |

Lattimore dropped Brown for Hurst and Bell immediately tries to fix Lattimore's mistake but there is no way he can close the gap. Lattimore's mistake all the way. Unless you think the Saints design a safety to cover 21 yards in the time it takes a WR to cover 15. https://i.postimg.cc/L8hqstQg/IMG-0015.png https://i.postimg.cc/JzgsHsS6/IMG-0016.png https://i.postimg.cc/8PZJDK4V/IMG-0014.png https://i.postimg.cc/CKqzGFgF/IMG-0017.png |

Re: Observations From The Saints' win vs Ravens
If I had to guess who made a mistake between Lattimore or Vonn Bell, it would be the easiest guess ever.
It was obvious Lattimore was meant to cover the flats and take the TE coming towards him, Vonn Bell just didn't notice John Brown. |

Everybody did the right thing. It was a perfect call against that defense. |

We can win on the road and Payton is a gambler...…...

I hope we trade for an upgrade in the secondary.

It is impossible for Bell to travel in a straight line to where Brown scored before Brown gets there unless Lattimore stands him up before releasing him or directs him inside. So either Bell was lined up over the tight end in error, the coaches are idiots or Lattimore made an error. Both safeties lined up over the slot receivers. On the opposite side of the field the corner carried his receiver to the five and gave up the flat. Lattimore released Brown at full speed at the ten. Bell has already moved 5 yards towards that sideline but he is still 15 yards away from the pylon. Bell would have to sprint from his position at the snap to have any hope of meeting Brown at the pylon. Blaming it on a late recognition or reaction is stupid. Usain Bolt would have struggled to get there in time out the blocks. |

Saw Tom on one replay where Brees was pressured and he didn't lay a hand on anyone. Missed a guy to his left AND right. But, clearly he did good enough in a BRUTAL situation. And one can assume he will only get better.

Re: Observations From The Saints' win vs Ravens
My observations. Demario Davis is real. Dude makes plays. Treyquan Smith continues to impress, improve and play like a true professional. Benjamin Watson is a beast. PJ Williams and his short legs had his best game to date. Of course he still got smoked a few times and he'll never be a lock down corner but he made some plays. Of course Mike Thomas, Cam Jordan, Kamara and Drew are our studs. But Okafor played his but off too. Even Crawley made plays. Oh and LSU gonna beat BAMA. LSU been in dogfights. Bama played noone. WHO DAT! Oh and let me go on record right now. AD wins the MVP this year and the Pels win it all.

I mean they skull drug Ole Miss, A&M, Arkansas, Missou & the Vols. These are SEC teams, not Div II programs. JJ Burrow will need to be more than a "game manager" to defeat Nicky Saban in Baton Rouge on 11/3/2018. Tua can flat out "spin it". Tigers will need to play their best football next week to have a chance. |
Re: Observations From The Saints' win vs Ravens
I know I'm an idiot but I can't help it. I truly believed John Fourcade would take the Saints to the Bowl. I'm a homer. But don't you like our chances in Death Valley after that Georgia game?
