RE: ESPN has more on Benson
Un-freakin-be-leivable. What a clown.
Here's some good news, b/c frankly I can't stand to even think about Tom Benson anymore. I recently spoke with a friend of mine, an old high school buddy, who does some accounting and media work for the Hornets. He has met Rita LeBlanc on a number of occassions and says that she is extremely intelligent. That would explain the success of the VooDoo on the field and off of it. In any case, there seems to be hope for the future, assuming Tom doesn't F us all before Rita gets to take over. |

Basically, at least to me, Benson sees ticket sales are down, and is trying to cover his tracks. Am I to believe he is so naive that he feels no playoffs in 4 years, the threat of moving, the apathy he has shown recently toward the state in negotiating a long term deal, none of that has ANYTHING to do with ticket sales being down but it is a poor economy only? Has the economy been anything but poor in the last 10-15 years? What a crock.

What agravates me about Benson is how he talks in generalities. What is he really saying when he says "Our situation isn't good, everyone knows it, and it has to get better"? Is he saying that the negotiations and the effect their having on PR is hurting? Or is it that he's still complaining about not having a stadium or a renovated Dome?
Maybe if he'd speak clearly, openly, and (as if) honestly, all these problems could be worked out. |

He said in an article I read this morning he was still interested in a new stadium. Said renovating the dome is a halfway fix. Let me see if I can find it.

Other than Benson, who has complained about the dome being outdated. That place friggin rocks. Just add some more suits for the extra income and a new replay screen and you are done. Why would the state pay for a new stadium the end up having to pay Benson to stay and play in it? And what's to stop him from renegotiating after any deal has been made? I think the Govenor doesn't know how important the saints are to the city and fans, but Benson trying to basically have the state pay for everything and he holds the title is just insane.
