this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Its a shame to lose Delhomme, we will come to regret this loss. However, its a good move for Delhomme , having to sit the bench behind a one arm QB didn\'t help matters....

I hope he gets to start.
The only reason the Saints kept him was to play keep away.(Keep him away from other teams that can burn them.) Well it looks like they just got burned. (Remember Bobby Hebert?) :casstet: |

This is the darkest day in my life. No, just kidding. However, this is terrible for the Saints. Delhomme is going to go to Carolina and be a star. We\'ll be kicking ourselves in two or three years - mark my word. What\'s worse, is he knows our system, he knows our defensive players, he\'s play with most of them every day in practice for five years. He\'s seen millions of hours of tape, and I\'m sure knows a good deal about Venturi. Ready for a sweep by Carolina boys?

Without a quality backup quarterback, what is Brooks\' incentive to play his best? Now we get to look forward to more, bigger smiles after bad plays and loses.Furthermore, we have no idea how Brook\'s shoulder will respond to the offseason surgery. What happens when he tears the shoulder up again in preseason or training camp? We will be left scrambling and scraping the bottom of the barrel for someone else\'s discarded quarterback. Once again the Saints\' front office and coaching staff shows why they\'re always on the outside looking in ! I can already hear the \"wait til next year\" chants.

Not bad for a little ole school like UL Lafayette (formerly USL), First Brian Mitchell gets a fat contract with the Giants as a kick returner(a pretty good one at that) then his predecessor Jake Delhomme gets a respectable contract with Carolina.

You know what Gator? I hope Carolina doesn\'t sweep us next year, but I think it is very possible. They\'ll sign a new RB and have an improved running game. Obviously their passing attack just got better b/c Delhomme is much better than Peete in my mind.
Over the last three years, the Carolina games have all been close. Delhomme and a new running game is enough to push them over the edge. He\'s too smart not to beat us at least once. He knows Venturi, he knows this team\'s tendancies, and he knows the defenders. He\'ll exploit it. |

I\'m of the opinion that many of the Jake fans here have a clouded vision of him because of his Louisiana connection. The Saints certainly lost something when Jake left, but it wasn\'t as much as many of you would have us believe. He was, after all, a career backup.
The facts support this. Even Carolina isn\'t so sure that Jake can beat out the other QB\'s on their roster. If they were sure, they would have signed him to a long term contract and annointed him starter. Instead, they have recognized his potential and are going to give him a chance to win the starting job. Coach Fox has said even after signing Jake that Rodney Peete is still the incumbent [starter]. We all want Jake to do well because he seems like such agreat guy - football and family-wise. The problem is that we shouldn\'t give him more credit than he deserves and, right now, that credit is that he has been nothiing more than a good backup who desrves a chance to win the starting job. |
