On this date, in 2009, I got married. it was my Wife's idea to do it on this date as she is a real, die-hard Saints fan. So much so that I have seen cups fly across the room (I truly did not know how much of a fan she was and has become)
All we asked was a wedding gift of a Lombardi Trophy...they delivered.
We went to New Orleans and will never forget the sheer joy as we piled out of Broussards into a sea of happiness. Thank you New Orleans, the Saints and it's people. You really put the icing on the cake. A huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY from us both.

Well we went Pro but we didn't exactly play like Pros right away.
However it's been a crazy journey never the less.

$5 ticket prices expected. Was that a lot in '66?

I would think so.

According to the Inflation calculator, it equates to $38.96 today.

Source - > $5 in 1966

To put it in perspective, the average yearly income in 1966 was $4,938.00.

Our first owner Robert Meacum(sp?) was an oil man and that's why our colors are black and gold. Black gold......:bng:

Original owner was John W Mecom Jr.
From Texas and had vast assets in Houston.

God bless crooked politics, backroom deals, David Dixon, Hale Boggs, and Russel Long... without all of that New Orleans wouldn’t have been awarded an NFL franchise when it was.

The NFL awarded the city of New Orleans a franchise if Congress would grant an antitrust exemption for the NFL merger.

My birthday too. I like to say, "for my first birthday, I got the Saints."

Happy Birthday.

Sad that was the only way we could get into the club...

While I am sure not every city/state had to find a way to get an NFL team, i'm not open to the belief that we were the only one who's path was an alternate path, especially after that precedent was set... or maybe that was a play from a previous precedent.

Business deals are generally like ice bergs, and the bigger the deal the more ice under the surface.

In many ways the NFL reminds me of West World. :bng:

I am glad it worked lol.
