Remember When...Michael Thomas

Joe Horn Tribute. Touch'e Michael Thomas. Touch'e.

Re: Remember When...Michael Thomas

I thought it was hilarious at first but when they wound up starting at the 40 I got nervous. If we had lost it would be different story. I saw an interview as he was headed to the lockers and he looked like he realized it was a bad idea in hindsight. He said something like “ I put the cell phone there but wasn’t planning to use it unless we had the game in hand as and it wouldn’t affect my team mates. Luckily it didn’t hurt thank god.” I think he realized how much it could have hurt the team and learned his lesson.

I'm OK with the stunt in general, but agree the timing was really bad. The game was far from out of reach at that point. It could have gone real bad, real fast.

Hindsight typically makes all practical jokes seem like a bad idea...

Bet he gets fined.

Re: Remember When...Michael Thomas

Hated it when Horn did it and hated it even more when Thomas did it. Stupid timing, selfish antics, and unfortunately detracts from what otherwise was a brilliant day by Michael. He went from looking like an elite receiver in this league arguably the best there is right now to nothing more than an Ocho-cinco style clown.

I know I'm going to get rocked by fans for this and I don't care. It was a stupid and selfish stunt and he dropped many notches in my eyes for pulling this crap. It's the one aspect of the game I can't stand. I am all for spontaneous acts of celebration but I detest the choreographed and pre-planned garbage like this. Time to grow up Michael.

Re: Remember When...Michael Thomas

Looked like the same phone. The whole thing was made to look like the original joke. Did he get it from Joe Horn yet Joe says he didn't know. One thing is for sure... that phone was outdated.

It would have been great had we be winning by more. It certainly scared the crap out of all of us. LOL

Re: Remember When...Michael Thomas

Hindsight is he beat the press at the line to convert on 3rd down yet again as he rambled 70+ yards for a TD to put us up by 10. Hindsight is it didn’t affect us in the least bit because the Rams didn’t even score. This is why players shouldn’t give a damn about what a fan says or thinks.

"Hindsight" says he didn't know the Rams wouldn't score with good field position. And judging from the post game presser with Payton, coach felt the same way. I'm sure Thomas doesn't care what the fans think, but I bet he cares what Sean thinks.

As I said, I have no problem with the stunt itself, just the timing.

It would have been much funnier if he would have faked having a phone there. Also no penalty.

Re: Remember When...Michael Thomas

I hated that we got a penalty and I overreacted to the cell phone thing because is was a BIG PROBLEM back in 2003 with the NFL and Joe Horn because just post 911, there was a scare about players, or anyone, putting any objects on the field. The country was spooked about terror attacks after 911 - period.

Michael Thomas was born in 1993 and was 10 when 911 happened. He probably doesn't remember the fines and ire from Commissioner Tagliabue over the Joe Horn stunt.

I think Thomas was paying homage to the fans and past great unsung wide receivers the Saints have had. I could tell in his post interview on tv that he was kinda regretting doing it. So if he does it in the spirit of the team, I'm willing to let it go. I encourage everyone else to do the same. I just don't think he had bad or foolish intentions, he was making a statement about the Saints.

Re: Remember When...Michael Thomas

It was a mistake, we all make them. Stop crucifying the guy for it. He made a huge play in a huge game and he let his emotions get the best of him. Again I say, it happens to us all. At the end of the day I don't give a rat's ass about the penalty. We won the game, that's literally the only thing that matters. And if I'm being honest, I got a good laugh out of it when Joe did it, and an even bigger laugh when Mike did it. Some of you need to relax.

Re: Remember When...Michael Thomas

I loved it, it was a great homage to Joe....but also not happy about the penalty and the field position, I was really nervous at that point.

On the other hand, the last guy I remember who was a star receiver for the team and who got a similar penalty for celebrating/stunts/antics after a touchdown in a game that still was close, that guy lasted another year or so on the team but then ultimately got traded and now finds himself catching passes from somebody not named Drew Brees, on yet another team. I like Michael Thomas just as much as the next guy, don't get me wrong, I think he's a beast and one of the bright spots on our offense; but I also sorta felt the same way about Jimmy Graham, with the dunking the ball, and we all know how that one ended....if you're a newly-minted Saints fan, who isn't too used to Sean Payton-coached teams and how he runs things with his players, I'd say enjoy his play right now, but don't get too attached to Michael Thomas, that would be my personal advice.

Payton should bench him or cut him then. That’ll teach him.

Didn't look like it to me. The ref threw the flag as soon as he touched the padding before he actually had the phone. So I think that it's a penalty to use the goal as a prop period?

Re: Remember When...Michael Thomas

I liked it because it excited the fans and it paid homage to a Saint great.
I hated it because of the timing and the what if he had this... under there.
I also liked it because it let everyone know who MT is, literally.
I watched watched Skip Bayless say something this morning that was amazing. He picked the Saints to win it all and has been behind us all year. But didn’t know what Thomas looked like until yesterday. He called him a top 5 receiver and didn’t know what he looked like. After yesterday I hope that Skip and the football world know who MT is and what the Saints are about.
Having fun and winning.

He didn't have to touch it, only act like it. People would have still got it.

By this logic, everyone should play the lottery because one person won. Not real smart.

It was boring, and unoriginal.

I think it has to do with Mike wanting to get Mike’s name out there. He’s tired of being overlooked and not in the discussion of top WR’s by the national media. It worked to perfection.

Are you guys still angry about Pierre Thomas pulling out a bow to put on the football and give to a fan in that Christmas game against the Falcons in 2011? Let’s move on.

To you. I don’t find it to be a coincidence the defense held up and the offense converted to run the clock out after he did it. He fired up his teammates and the crowd. That was a momentum shift. Couldn’t be too boring when everybody is talking about it.

This. I can’t sit around listening to knuckleheads on the radio this morning bashing on the man who basically won the game.

The man rallied the troops and the fans.

Has winning made this fan base forget the fun of it all?

15 yards? Worth it for that demoralizing moment. They were going to beat us in out building? I think not.

There’s always the Spelling Bee for a more proper atmosphere.

It’s crazy to me. I see the most asinine and cringeworthy celebrations after almost every TD week in and week out around the league; but this was a problem to the talking heads?! GTFO.
