Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
Over the years Sean Payton has always allowed room on his roster for one or two "head cases" or "difficult" players every year -- guys who maybe have the big egos or the checkered past histories (remember Shockey, anybody?). But Payton doesn't EVER let the inmates run the asylum, or allow them to become a distraction, and if the player ever becomes a problem, or if his head case issues become too much to deal with, or if Payton feels that football on the field isn't really the #1 thing for the guy, then the door is right over thataway (love ya, Reggie, and best of luck in Miami). Dez will understand all this clearly, it will be stated up front, or else he won't even be given an offer by the Saints.
Payton handles things with the occasional diva and/or player egos, in much the same way that Belichick handles egos on his teams. Think about a guy like Randy Moss, who is vocal and moody and often critical of his teammates, had attitude problems and played inconsistently on other teams. Moss has always done his share of gimme-the-ball whining and complaining, but he was always well behaved and productive/positive, during his time with the Patriots. As long as Dez doesn't show up in the police reports as being arrested in the champagne room at the club or hanging out with the usual suspects at Republic at 3 AM, I think it's a great potential short term signing. |

Welcome 88. This better work out. |
Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
We sign Dez on a one year deal; signs tomorrow when he gets back to New Orleans from what I hear

Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
If he helps this team, great move. If he comes in and divides the locker room along with throwing his typical hissy fits on the sideline, this could be a mild disaster.

Also, yes he had some issues earlier in his career but he is not Terrell Owens ffs. We have structure in this organization vs Dallas who has a owner who wants o play coach as well. On this ship, it Sean's way or no way. I am not anticipating any behavioral issues, especially this year. He wants to get payed, so he is gonna be a quire boy for now at least. |
Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
Drew is the leader in that locker room and I'm sure they will get on the same page on and off the field. If Dez wants the ball from Drew he's gonna' have to play nice.

Even if he doesn’t get open, he’s going to take at least some coverage away from Thomas, Kamara, and the others... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
The #Saints would like to see Dez Bryant get down about 5 more lbs but liked what they saw at workout. He’s been training w WR coach David Robinson working on his hip flexibility, foot quickness in short area spaces, intermediate route running and attacking routes harder

Physically, Dez is a lot like Thomas. I'm confident that Brees is responsible for much of Thomas' success. He's a good receiver. Brees makes him great. Let's hope the Brees can to the same for Dez. |

As long as he behave himself, I can live with it.

Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
I'm concerned about loosing team chemistry w/Bryant since he can't keep is mouth shut.

Look, the guy wants to win, and win he will do here. He has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. He knows he is in the perfect place to do just that. Give the man a chance. We have the leaders in place in management, coaching, and on the field, to bring Dez into the fold. Winning cures a whole lotta ills... :bng: |

Come on. I am happy we are trying to win now. I think we will see more of the sets we saw when Graham was here, with Dez in the "Graham" spot would be my guess, and I think he can help us. Meredith doesn't fit our system or he's not as good as we thought and Smith is gonna take some more time to develop so this move makes us better. I think Dez can help in a lot of sets, but as I said earlier, we didn't sign Calvin Johnson. |
Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
Bryant is a lot stronger than Smith is; especially in the red zone... Go ahead and throw one on one coverage at him and watch Drew feast on the back shoulder and jump ball throws

Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
I am sure SP had the straight up expectations talk....
When Drew throws your way he throws your way, don't ask for more passes Anything that has the remote look of locker room cancer, your out There is no "I" in team and Thomas is the star here |

I can't say 100% that he'll come here and dominate. He might be Adrian Peterson 2.0 for all we know. But the chance that he will is enough to tickle my pickle

Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
This is a 3rd down and Red Zone move
The lack of a deal this year may well have adjusted any issues with thinking he's number 1. I like this move |
Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
Pick your poison on 3rd down red zone shots.
How can you cover Thomas, Bryant and Kamara. Throw Ingram and Watson on the field at the same time and you have open lanes to run as you can't stack the line and if you go all out on the big three Ben Watson will be open. Bryant isn't gonna be a 10 reception 150 yards 2 TDs type of guy much but I could easy see 3-4 Receptions for 30-40 yards and a TD regular |
Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
You can kinda see why Dez was unhappy and outspoken in Jerrys World.
It's frustrating playing for a Puppet Coach and having to bow to the Sky Box. I believe this guy's a player and he was in the middle of Cowboy politics. Even the Cows Favorite Son Troy Aikman just spoke out about the dysfunctions of the team and the need to shake up Jerrys World. |
Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
We will see how it goes. He will start off as strictly a role-player because he doesn't know the offense yet. If he does well in a limited role there is upside as the season goes on. Because outside of his rookie year when Miles Austin was the #1, he probably hasn't seen much single coverage throughout his whole college and pro career. He'll get that here with #13, #9 and #41 among others doing their thing.

Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
Dez will have at least one multi score game.
|
Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
By the end of the season we’ll probably bring Ted Ginn back from IR and we’ll be rolling out Thomas, Bryant, Smith and Ginn. I like that.
|
Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
Well we had to do something...
I think Sean knows we exposed a weakness to other teams and that is we are very week at WR. No WR outside of MT is getting the job done. No one is even averaging 2 catches a game. This shouldn't be at all. Those younger WR's better feel the heat now. Look you aren't going to get open and make plays we'll have to find someone else. |
Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
Reckon this move shows an element of conceding our defence will not make it to top 10 this year. I think we understand there is a lot of talent on the D but just falls short of Super Bowl standard. Bryant gives Brees another weapon so our offence might have to bring us home if we are to go all the way. If our D does end up clicking, it’s all over!!

Re: Dez Bryant Signing With Saints
Quote:
An example of that is Brees' 500th TD pass against Washington. One analyst (David Carr I believe) pointed out that T. Smith's route was designed to clear out a space. He wasn't the primary target for the ball. Kamara was. But when J. Norman decided to jump the route, Brees fired the ball to Smith. Point is that even if Smith and Norman had both done everything right on the play, that Smith would have never gotten the ball. We'll likely see some of that with Dez too, where his mere presence will force the defense to commit additional personnel, thus freeing up other playmakers. SFIAH |
