Re: Saints say 'the progression,’ other guys performing well is why Cameron Meredith has had to slow start
BY NICK UNDERHILL | nunderhill@theadvocate.com Nov 7, 2018 - 4:28 pm
The addition of Dez Byrant to the roster isn’t as an indictment of anyone already on the team. Even though free-agent addition Cameron Meredith hasn’t made much of an impact, the Saints say there isn't a particular reason or his slow start. It’s just how things have played out. “Nothing’s been holding him back,” coach Sean Payton said. “Oftentimes it's the progression. Sometimes he didn’t play as many snaps in Minnesota based on our personnel. He had some big plays against Washington, so a lot of it‘s just the progression of what we’re doing.” Meredith signed with the Saints as a restricted free agent to a two-year, $9.5 million contract. The Bears could have retained him but decided not to match the offer as Meredith was working his way back from a knee injury that kept him sidelined throughout the 2017 season. So far, he has nine catches for 114 yards with one touchdown. He had five catches for 71 yards against Washington but was not targeted in any of the last three games. Meredith did not practice Wednesday due to a knee injury. Quarterback Drew Brees agreed with Payton’s assessment of why Meredith has not been very involved this season. “Things are rolling along with everyone who is getting (targets),” Brees said. “That’s just the way it goes sometimes. No particular reason other than on any given play there are guys that are featured and guys who are later on in the progression. “He’s gotten a few, probably not as many I thought he’d be getting at this point, but it is what it is. It’s nothing against him or anything else. It’s just the way it’s kind of played out.” |

Apparently "The Progression" is the new, "He has a knee".
SP has now enlisted Drew in his injury speak. |

I guarantee Lance Moore would have been more productive.

That must be why we brought in Dez while we send Meredith to IR.
