"Are we an NFL community or are we not an NFL community?"
Gee Tom, I dunno. Do we have an NFL Team in New Orleans? I thought 60,000 people had been watching a bunch of high schoolers for the last 38 years.
"It's going to take the businesses and the community to say, 'We want an NFL team, and whatever it takes, that's what we're going to do.' "
So when you need more money it's up to all of us... but when you don't get it the decision to leave is up to you? "Whatever it takes?!" I'll tell you what Tom, you give me the Saints, and I'll pay you and your granddaughter both $5 million per year until I sell the team or you die. Is that fair? $5 million per year in free money would put you in the top 10% of the top 1% of all wage earners in this country. How's that?
When asked if the Saints would stay or go, Benson responded, "I think it's the people's decision to make, not mine."
GREAT!! You'll stay. Thanks Tom, I'm glad that you realized the the "I'm only making $20 million a year!!" rant wasn't working. Thanks for giving us the choice.
the biggest complaint that we have is that our prices are too high. And we've got one of the lowest prices in the league.
Flat out lie - ESPECIALLY if you factor in cost of living.
But he believes the community has done exactly that, "year after year."
Yeah, I'd call setting attendance records in your 37th season, after the previous 36 netted one playoff will qualifies as support. F-ing putz. I'm starting to hate Tom Benson. He Tom, see how many people show up to the L.A. Colliseum after two losing seasons.... let alone 30.
However, Benson has come out strongly this week insisting that he has no desire to leave New Orleans -- refuting comments from two weeks ago by his attorney, Stanley Rosenberg, who told the San Antonio Express-News that Benson was "interested in relocating the franchise, possibly to San Antonio."
Which, as a negotiator, was a terrible move. It shows weakness. It shows that Tom knows he f-ed up with that San Antonio carp. He knows he's screwed and now trying to play the victim and nice guy card is only making him look more weak and strengthens the opinion that all that other talk was BS. It makes him look even sleazier.
I've gone from Governor Edwards to Governor Foster to Governor Blanco and we keep doing this every couple of years. This is no way to operate. It's disturbing to the community and disturbing to me.
I mean, are you f-ing serious?!?!?! You're right Tom, it is no way to operate. Maybe if you had done what you're now telling the State to do - just stick to the deal, instead of coming back with your hand out every 4 years - this wouldn't have happened. What an @$$hole!!!
"We've got to set a plan to be in the NFL. And we've all got to chip in and work hard and make sure that we can do it."
By "chip in" you still mean the fans, don't you Tom? You don't think that you need to chip in the $40 million that you refused to spend on a $737 million deal, right? No wonder Aaron Brooks is your franchise QB - it's the fans' fault, and everyone else just needs to do more. Not you, you're great.
"And what we do charitably in this community is unbelievable. ... Hey, the Saints are a tremendous asset to this community."
God he's even starting to sound like Aaron Brooks. Just kill me. I hate the owner.
