Observations from the Saints' blowout victory vs. Eagles

The New Orleans Saints routed the Philadelphia Eagles 48-7 on Sunday (Nov. 18) before a sellout crowd at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to improve their record to 9-1 on the season.
It was the Saints' ninth consecutive win and gave them a commanding three-game lead in the NFC South Division over Carolina (6-4).
Here are my takeaways from the blowout victory:

1. The Superdome is back
The energy inside the Dome was electric, and the Saints rode the enthusiasm from the sellout crowd for four quarters. The Saints scored on their first three drives to seize a 17-0 lead and never trailed. With the Saints turning on the heat and the crowd amping the noise, the Eagles withered under the unrelenting onslaught.
The loss was the worst of Doug Pedersen's two-plus-year coaching tenure. Carson Wentz looked like a deer in headlights for most of the day. His 31.9 passer rating was the lowest of his career.
The Saints, meanwhile, won for the third consecutive time in wire-to-wire fashion at the Dome. They have not trailed at home since early in the fourth quarter of their Week 2 game against the Browns.
With the way the Saints are playing right now, teams don't stand a chance of competing with them in the frenetic atmosphere of the Superdome.

2. Drew Brees continued his MVP season
What more can we say about Drew Brees? He is playing at an insane level right now and he shows no signs of slowing up. His final numbers on Sunday were staggering: 22 of 30 for 363 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. Brees feasted on the Eagles' injury-riddled secondary. His passer efficiency rating reflected the brilliance of his performance. The 153.2 figure matched his effort against the Redskins and was tied for the fifth best of his career.
At age 39, Brees is playing better than at anytime in his career. His 126.9 passer efficiency rating, 25:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio and 76.9 completion percentage lead the NFL. If he keeps this up, there's no way anyone can deny him his first MVP award.

3. It was easy pickins' for Marshon Lattimore
The Saints' second-year cornerback is known for his great ball skills and he flashed them on a first-quarter interception of Wentz. On the Eagles' third series, Lattimore made a savvy read and peeled back his coverage, anticipating a deep throw from Wentz to Nelson Algholor, who had gotten behind Eli Apple. While back-peddling, Lattimore made a beautiful leaping interception, his first of the season. The interception led to a Saints touchdown and the route was on. Those were the ball skills that made Lattimore the first cornerback selected in the 2017 NFL Draft.

The thing that stood at to me most was Tre'Quan and Kirkwood. A few weeks ago I was just hoping for a guy that could take some of the burden off of Michael Thomas. Instead I think we may have gotten one of the better receivers in the league in Tre'Quan. I think the guy has legit Pro-Bowl potential. Trying not to get too carried away , but he really impresses me. Kirkwood looks pretty damn impressive too. If Brandon Marshall still has something left in the tank, our offense is going to be insane.

Sheldon Rankins is living up to his 1st round pedigree. He had that poor center on skates. Got another sack, making it four in the past four games for the third-year defensive tackle.

Side note - really like the way Eli Apple is turning his head around for the football. Kudos to PJ (maybe that Def player of the week honor wasn't a fluke) as well. I thought Ertz would have a big day but he was damn near non existent. Really like the way the secondary is "gelling over the last 3 weeks.

Didn't even hear Fletcher Cox, Micheal Bennett & Chris Long's name until the 3rd quarter. Easy to see why Saints O lineman get a day off every week. They consistently win one on one match ups against superior D line competition.

I have never seen Drew so comfortable in the pocket as he's been this year. You don't see him with happy feet anymore and his timing on deep passes has been better than it's ever been. He's even eliminated those one or two "WTF" throws he'd have every few games. Kudos to the offensive line and the job they've done. They've been masterful.

Starts in the trenches on both sides. Brees gets hurried & put off his mark, accuracy goes down. Ingram & Kamara have less room to run. Morstead sees the field more.

On the opposite side, if teams can run the ball well we don't force as many turnovers & they eat the clock. We put no pressure on their QB & he lights up our secondary.

Our O-line is elite. Our D-line is coming around nicely.

I know some are, but I’m not a fan of Kirt Warner. I think he’s a narcissist and don’t buy the whole Christian thing he’s trying to portray.
