Not to point out the negative about yesterday

Before I get into the offense I have to give kudos to our D. 48 points wasn’t shocking but holding them to 7 is mind blowing. Their offense was supposed to be good enough to keep up with us. Golden Taint was a non factor and seeing turnovers was great.
Anyway, did anyone else notice a lot of confusion lining up on offense. Delay of game, false starts, forced time outs etc. seems like they were having a tough time getting on the same page at certain points. In the end it didn’t matter but that could kill us against a healthier D. Anyone else notice this? Is Payton getting too elaborate or confusing with his play calling?

Re: Not to point out the negative about yesterday

Nope. Didn't notice it. I tend to concentrate on positives when my team demolishes an opponent 48-7.

Re: Not to point out the negative about yesterday

It looked to me like the normal Saints offense. There was one time out used in the first half where the play clock was winding down, but it was an important down anyway (I think it was a 3rd down on the edge of field goal range) and they had a comfortable lead, so no big deal there. Read the Peter King article today, a lot of things with the offense get sorted out in their meetings on Saturday night. Not bad at all, if they're able to be this good, by Drew and Payton picking out the best plays in the hotel suite, the night before the game. It's all good!

I think they were experimenting since they were in a live game situation with an early win locked up. Essentially a practice session to work on different areas.

Re: Not to point out the negative about yesterday

I saw one play where Drew said, "I didn't get the play." He was smiling. The other stuff was probably due to Drew doing his normal checks prior to snaps. You've also got a very young WR core and even TE Arnold.

All in all, it was not a problem. And there were only 3 such times I saw it. When you're lining up a PS WR and TE with a rookie WR, it takes time to get in sync.

48-7...I dont see an issue man.

Re: Not to point out the negative about yesterday

Didn't really see much or worth mentioning. Well played game by NO. In all phases of the game.

This is somewhat petty however in garbage time, Ken Crawley was flagged for pass int . Luckily Banjo bailed him out with the INT to keep the Feagles off the board late.

Re: Not to point out the negative about yesterday

Like JNormand, lining up inexperienced WRs seemed to be the issue. Carr was fumbling around a few times getting lined up, too. It wasn't pass protection from what I saw. TQ, Carr, Arnold & Kirkwood are all younguns.

This offense has always given me stress taking the clock so far down & burning timeouts on offense and that was with experienced guys lining up over the years. I imagine all the personnel changes play-to-play is not easy.

We're fine. Just lots of moving parts.

Re: Not to point out the negative about yesterday

I agree with the theory on new players.
I did notice an almost deliberate run down of the play clock on lots of plays.
Meaning, our offense runs on temp and we control it. The more the play clock ticks, the more time of possession we have.

You and I probably just have a slight difference of opinion of what "a lot" means. For you its 1, for me its definitely always more than 1.

1 - Delay of Game
1 - False Start

Philadelphia Eagles @ New Orleans Saints - 11/18/2018 - NFL Penalty Stats Tracker - List/Statistics/Data of NFL Penalties - 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018

Its probably worth noting that Crawley only played 11 snaps but was able to squeeze in a pass interference call. :)

In the end it didn’t matter but.............

I blame Payton, he's insane, doing "film studies and walk throughs" It's obvious the Eagles didn't use up precious energy with such nonsense!!!

I did notice SP aggravated on the sidelines a few times when we had the ball.
A little more than usual and was even pointed out by Buck & Troy.
I just figured Sean didn't like losing the Golf game to Pederson and was going ball to the wall.

Your weird assed parody made me smile. Well done.

I think we also planned to use all of the clock on as many plays as possible to keep the Eagles off the field. That made it appear like we were close to delays when it was actually intentional most of the time.

Payton is a perfectionist. That's where any aggravation would come from. Yet, I doubt losing the bet meant much to him since the players love the color rush uniforms, as do the fans. Hell, knowing Payton, he may have thrown the golf round with Pederson just to insure wearing away whites.

:D

Re: Not to point out the negative about yesterday

There was one delay of game penalty and on another occasion we had to burn a time-out; maybe something to do with new personnel, maybe confusion from changes in the playcalling so teams don't figure us out?

Have to clean it up. Got away with one here but we could easily start winning by 10 which is basically a loss IMO.

We've had as many or more of the same in every game all season. Pretty sure. Most every team has two or more line penalties called against them.

Nothing here .... move on.

And at least one burned time out. There was also a time or two it seemed they barely got it off. Drew was visibly annoyed. Not bashing the team just asking opinion as to what was up. Don’t get your panties in a wad. We are the best team in the league right now, no need to be bitter.

You seem to be the only one with an issue. I never saw Brees visibly annoyed. Never saw anything but good. Why are you always looking for the worst?

I understand the issue. But I agree, young and new WRS trying to hang with the elaborate schemes of SP and Drew.

I think it will get worked out

Most of this is due to the plays coming in a little late from Payton and then Drew changes protection based on what he sees. We need to break the huddle with 15 seconds on the play clock not 10.

If the offense was having issues I might agree, understanding that 5 more seconds for us is also 5 more seconds for the defense to read and adjust.

Sort of the if it isn't broke, dont fix it approach?

We currently have the 2nd all-time highest scoring offense in NFL history. It's like hunting for a turd in a field of the world's most beautiful flowers. Why?

So Crawley is the scorpion & the DC is the frog? Crawley tells the DC he'll cover the deep ball if only he can get on the field. The DC is sceptical, but since neither will succeed without the other the DC starts him for a few games. Crowley gives up bomb after bomb plus a bunch of PIs get called and the DC askes 'Why?'

"Because," says Crawley, " it's in my nature to do so."

So is this how the scorpion & the frog somehow intertwines with Saints football? Otherwise, I don't get it.

Nope. It was referring to why people look for a turd in a flower field ... because it is their nature.
