Deuce will be fishing for his foundation

New Orleans Saints fans have grown accustomed to watching the former Ole Miss running back carry the ball in different directions. But this time, the All-Pro player is running in different directions for his Catch 22 foundation.

McAllister and 20 of his NFL buddies will be in Gulfport this weekend for a Celebrity Waiter Dinner and Fishing Tournament. The dinner features celebrities serving as waiters while the fishing action will be hot and heavy on speckled trout and redfish.

"You always have golf tournaments where athletes raise money for foundations," McAllister said. "Me being from the South and from the Louisiana area where there's an abundance of water, why not have a fishing tournament? I'm not a big golfer, but I do like to fish."

In his four NFL seasons, McAllister has rushed for 4,194 yards with 31 touchdowns. He has also caught 165 passes for 1,262 yards and four more scores.

The 6-foot-1, 232-pound athlete points out that there's more to life than playing football.

The Deuce McAllister's Catch 22 Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the lives of underprivileged youths and adolescents in the Gulf South region through the establishment of positive role models, and a financial commitment to making a difference.

The fishing side of the event begins at 8 a.m. at the dock behind the Grand Casino in Gulfport. The tournament will end at 2:30 p.m. and tickets are still available. Autographed memorabilia will be given for first, second and third place boats.

Saints players expected on hand are Charles Grant, Joe Horn, Devery Henderson and Donte Stallworth. Anglers will be paired with one celebrity for a day of inshore fishing.

"It's an honor in many ways to have your teammates and other players from around the league helping out," McAllister said. "Then to see the guys get involved with something of this magnitude is great.

"It's big when people step up to help the less fortunate. It's real nice to see the guys support me because the foundation is very important
