Vikings | More on McQuarters Visit - from www.KFFL.com
Fri, 3 Jun 2005 12:03:13 -0700 The Associated Press reports free agent CB R.W. McQuarters (Bears) concluded his visit with the Minnesota Vikings Friday, June 3. Vikings head coach Mike Tice said he likes the veteran presence and versatility McQuarters brings to the table. "Knowing that he is a return guy ... certainly would give us some depth there at worst," Tice said. "Last year he played some safety. The versatility is a good thing, but knowing that he's a veteran guy and another guy that knows the division, I think he'd be a good addition, regardless of what else we have back there." Vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski said it was too early to say whether the team would attempt to sign McQuarters. Man - I really thought that the Saints should at least take a look at McQuarters, but I guess that they won't. Ah well - probably a money issue. |

RE: Vikings | More on McQuarters Visit
WhoDat, I heard he was high dollar. I don't know if thats true or not but if it is I'd pass. We have a lot of money tied up in our secondary already.
I also think the secondary is probably our strongest position on defense, even without Brown there pretty solid on paper. I don't think we need him, and I'd like to spend the money elsewhere. Like maybe DT? or a SLB? Or re-signing 3 or 4 key guys. Also, it seems like everytime I saw a highlight with RW McWaters in it he was always getting toasted. Of course they may be planning to release Fred Thomas, so then it would make sense to bring in someone else. But I personally feel Fred will bounce back. I read he had some injury issues last year that he didn't vocalize to the media, and didn't his Mother die, or get cancer or something? I can't remember. |

RE: Vikings | More on McQuarters Visit
Yeah, his mother died, I believe. We all have to go through it as some point, though that doesn't make it any easier.
Regardless though, I thought Freddie was getting traded. Didn't a number of teams express interest in him? His salary is over 2 million a year, isn't it? That's too much for a second stringer. He'd have to bounce all the way back to starter to justify that salary. And I hope he does. But I don't think he will. So I suspect a trade, or a cut. There'll be overtures for a salary renogotiation at the least, IMO. |
