Mike Tomlin dismisses Saints slump: 'They need no endorsement for me'

“They are a 12-2 group. They need no endorsement for me. It seems like every week Drew (Brees) is breaking a new record. He does a great job of utilizing all the eligibles. The running backs are awesome both in the running and passing game. They are formidable for all of those reasons and others."

“It’s going to be a competitive game. Obviously, a hostile environment. That’s life on the road in the National Football League. I’ve actually been down there quite a bit. Back in the day I was the old secondary coach for the Bucs.”

Tomlin is smart enough to know how good the Saints are and smart enough not to give them bulletin board material.

Unfortunately, some of our players don't share that same mentality.

Steelers are playing for their playoff lives; if that doesn't motivate them I doubt much of anything Cam Jordan says about their QB will either.

I’ve always wondered about this “extra motivation” thing...does this mean Big Ben wouldn’t have played as hard without Cam’s commentary?

I'll take a slumping 12-2 every year.

We are going to have to beat better teams in the playoffs and this will be a good test. If we can’t at least look competitive against these guys it may be a short post season for us.

What? We have been far more than competitive against every team we have faced this season. Why would you think there would be even the vaguest possibility the Saints wouldn't be competitive against a team that isn't as good as others we have already beaten?

Explain. It sounds like you are expecting us to struggle terribly or lose.

I'd put the shoe on the other foot. Can they compete with us?
