From Weeks 1 through 12 of the 2018 season, Drew Brees was arguably the best quarterback in the NFL. He completed 272 of 356 passes (an unfathomable 76.4% competition rate) for 3,135 yards, 29 touchdowns and two interceptions. In Week 11 against the Eagles team that Brees’ Saints will host in the divisional round of the playoffs, New Orleans won, 48-7, and Brees was dominant. He completed 22 of 30 passes for 363 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. The next week, against Atlanta’s bottom-tier defense, it was more of the same for Brees, who threw for four more touchdowns on just 15 completions.

And then, everything started to go downhill. From Weeks 13 through 16 (he sat in Week 17 as the Saints had already wrapped up home-field advantage through the playoffs), Brees’ completion rate dropped to 69.2%, his yards per attempt went from 8.8 to 6.4, and his passer rating dropped from a league-best 127.3 to 84.7—from first to 19th in the NFL. And after that blazing 29/2 touchdown-to-interception ratio in the first 12 weeks, Bree threw for three touchdowns and three interceptions total in the last four games he played.
