Last week someone posted that we were 7-0 with the PO game ref, and yet we had 11 penalties called. Meaningless.

Re: Rams fans launch petition to remove referee from Saints-Rams

I have said this many times on here -- the league actually did a serious study on this topic many years ago, evaluating the referees and penalties over the course of a large number of NFL games. And what they found was that, if the referees THINK you are the better team, better athletes, better coaching, they will GIVE you all the calls you need. The referees aren't necessarily biased against one particular team, or the other, by city or by storyline -- like thinking there's a guy out there who always calls games against the Rams or in favor of the Cowboys, but for the most part it doesn't really work like that -- most officials seem to be implicitly biased in favor of who they think is the better team on the field, playing better football, right there in front of them. Perhaps it is even somewhat unconscious on their part.

Favorable spots for the ball, penalties, overlooking penalties on big plays, all of it....If the refs THINK your team is the better team, playing "better football," that day, they will GIVE YOU the calls. If they THINK you just made a really great play, they will nudge the ball forward for the spot, and signal first down. And if they think you are not as good, cheating, being overly violent, have a bad attitude, or are trying to get something over on them, then it is straight up "talk to the hand" all day, and they won't give you anything.

This is why you see stuff like the refs helping Peyton Manning up after he gets sacked, but they don't do it for the other team's quarterback in the same game. If the refs THINK you are the better team, they have that subtle bias.

In the case of the Eagles game Sunday, if you look at what happened, how the penalties in that game were called, it wasn't completely fair or even-handed. We all know that, but it actually MAKES SENSE in terms of what I'm saying about referee bias.

In the beginning, the Saints came out flat, uninspired, they looked sluggish and NOT VERY GOOD. The Eagles came out and were on fire. So the referees formed that impression, maybe it was even unconscious, but they see the game and they think to themselves: muh, Eagles good, Saints bad -- and it was reflected in the calls. By the very end of the game, the calls were getting a little bit more even, because that amazing third quarter drive for a score pretty much MADE the referees stand up and give the Saints respect. The best way to get more of those calls to go your way, is simply to play better football than the other team.

You forgot that the league and advertisers make more money if a small market team isn't in the Superbowl. NO DOUBT we will have to beat the Refs AGAIN.

Good thing the game in in New Orleans or we would have no chance.

Re: Rams fans launch petition to remove referee from Saints-Rams

Forgive me ,sir, but those articles don't prove anything o said is wrong. Jersey sales and ticket sales have nothing to do with national popularity. Adult fans hardly buy any merchandise. The Rams fan base, like most of the teams who started before the Super bowl era, are t like 23 year old Seahawks fans.
The Saints are only currently having the most success they've ever had.once Brees is gone, they won't get it back. THE Rams were popular in the 40s,50s,60s,70s,80s and are on the way to being popular again.
But at least for this game, the Saints should win..but only to lose to Pats

Lol all this means they know exactly what they are doing and know how to do it well. What's so hard about calling more penalties on the team you have get the win? It's incredibly easy.

. They aren't fixing games but they are fixing games..is basically what you are saying without realizing it.
Lol at the nfl did it's own study on itself.
No, the nfl is telling you what to think.
They are admitting they fix games and you cant read between the lines.

If the league decides who wins, it has nothing to do with beat the refs. The teams have no say.
Small market teams do make it, as long as the other team isn't one..or it has a star player..so Pats v Saints is a good option. Saints v Chiefs won't happen

NFL refs are like MLB umpires who do give the good pitchers the benefit of a strike when it was a ball. On the other hand perhaps the Rams are trying to build their case for loosing if they should lose.

Last I looked I'm an adult (although I don't always act like one) and I have bought Saints gear for years. In fact, Saints fans tend to be older for the most part. We have been the longtime loyal sector. A newer younger generation has come about and are much appreciated.

The Rams' issue has been their moves from L.A. and then again from St. Louis. It splintered their fanbase. I know old L.A. Rams fans that stopped supporting the team when they moved away and then have only just now started to support them after their return.
