Re: After heartbreaking loss, Saints' QB Drew Brees 'pretty positive' he'll be back next season
Advocate staff report Jan 20, 2019 - 6:14 pm
Drew Brees just turned 40, he's the second oldest quarterback in the NFL, but he said he's not leaning toward retirement after a gut-wrenching loss to the Los Angeles Rams. "I plan on being here next year and making another run at it," Brees said. How sure is he? "I'm pretty positive." Brees' remarks came in a solemn press conference after the 26-23 overtime loss to the Rams that was marked by a questionable no-call late in the game when Tommylee Lewis was hit early by Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman. "There’s nothing we can do about it, so it’s unfortunate," Brees said. Brees went 26-40 for 249 yards and two touchdowns in the game, but threw a fateful interception in overtime after being hit as he threw by the Rams' Dante Fowler. If he does return for the 2019 season, he'll have a chance to further multiple NFL records he set this season, with at least one key benchmark still in front of him. Brees passed the marks for career passing yardage and completions earlier this year. Check back for updates. |

Then we really need to rethink some things offensively. Plugging in garbage WR’s and asking Brees to be a gunslinger isn’t getting it done anymore.

We are only a few hours removed from a devastating loss for me to think about "next year" right now.
Saints should be playing for another Lombardi in 2 weeks. It's hard to beat a NFL team and the refs. |

Honestly... I wish he would retire.
It’s very apparent that his arm is not capable of strong and accurate throws beyond 30yds. As the season went on our offense cooled and while I think there are many reasons for that Drew’s age catching up to him was the biggest. Would like to see what Teddy can do with the real team to play with. |

Got to keep up records on Tom Brady. The real question is if Brady wins another Superbowl, will he retire? The entire AFC is depending on it.

Things were better than ever when our offensive line was intact. He needs a LT Who isn’t hurt 8 games a season. By week 11 he was playing behind the worst offensive line since he’s been a Saint. The ones who did play were playing injured. He also had no where near the amount weapons he’s had in the past. He’s still better than anyone else we have here or anyone else out there available.
I also think he had been playing hurt. He was having the best season of his career. Drop offs like that happen because of injury not age. |
