Re: Change.org petition for rematch
I don't want a rematch. A few compensatory draft picks would help. But ultimately, we need rule/replay changes.
All roughing the passer flags should be reviewed. The refs clearly are not capable of making that call at game speed, but they want to protect the QB's. Can't have it both ways, because what you have now is a bunch of phantom calls - the Vikings/Packers tie fiasco involving Clay Matthews, Chris Jones on Brady last night, etc. etc. mixed in with the occasional good call and then a bunch that are missed outright. The head-to-head and targeting is also all over the board. Player safety needs to be reviewable because the NFL refs are not competent or consistent in their efforts to protect the QB's, let alone the other players. If they can stop the game for many minutes on end for judgement calls like catch/no-catch issues and Edelman's punt muff, they surely can do quick reviews for player safety. For these, it only takes a quick glance or two at the replay and even the layman would know what the proper call/non-call is. If we get no tangible procedural or rule change out of this nightmare, that is the real loss. Long-term would even mean more than winning the Super Bowl this year. |
