So we tie up money now or even this past season that could've been used on Senio Kelemete or the like? or maybe a younger tight end that could play more than 38yo Watson? or a Tyrann Mathieu who could've lock down a safety or nickel back for us last season?

Let me pose this to you - Would you rather have TE Jesse James, WR Cam Meredith or WR Dez Bryant?

Saints weren't in a position to throw Sammy Watkins type coin (14M) last season at good to above avg WRs.

Saints signed him to a 2 year deal with only 1 year guaranteed. If he doesn't return to form in 2019, cut him.

From a GM perspective, not really a big deal and I'm not to the point of saying Meredith is done.

Dez is still an unknown. Invite him to camp, see how he performs and go from there.

As far as tight end goes, I've been on the "upgrade" train for 2 seasons now. No disrespect to Hill or Arnold but trotting out undrafted guys at this position caught up with us. Even a older, slower, broke up Jimmy Dickens (Graham) would have had more impact in the red zone during the playoffs.

Very unfortunate that Fleener didn't work out. I hope the Saints go aggressive here when FA period starts.

I’d prefer Dez Bryant. I’d like to see us go grab Cameron Brate at Tight End. I wouldn’t mind seeing us go after Cole Beasley if he’s available too.

You're hired if you can pull that off, Rez.

I can tell you for sure that Drew has shifted into big time "home town discount" mode. He wants this BAD.

Why would we want Sammy Watkins? My bad, Major, I'm just missing something...

I understand the logistics of the signing, but what I'm saying is you invested a 3rd round pick in a guy, let him get the snaps so he can develop and contribute...

Before the injury, Dez looked done, that's why Dallas moved on without a No. 1 until they traded for Amari Cooper. Even Dallas knew he was done.

And I understand what you're saying about Tight End last year. But now Arnold and Griffin have finally, one, learned the position...

...two, have gained adequate weight to play the position...

and three, got some, but not enough reps at that point to be trusted in the playoffs (And Arnold was mauled before making a great attempt coming down with that ball)...

The ability is there, they needed time to get where they need to beand that's why they went undrafted...

We just need a front end tight end to do the job until they're fully ready...

And as far as receiver, there does appear to be an issue between Brees and the young slot receiver - with this possibly being Brees' last run, I'd go get Humphries or Hogan - guys that are durable and can catch a lot of balls to convert those 3rd downs...

I'll say this. After watching some of the missed chances in Free Agency and some questionable draft day management (yes, 2017 was out the park), I regret ever criticizing Brees for demanding a max contract affecting the team's ability to get more free agents...

The money wasted on guys like Jairus Byrd and the two for one moving up caught up with this team and still is as Payton continues to mortgage the future worse and worse with each draft...
