2019 Saints NFL Free Agency

So this ghost may still be out there from last year...

Looks like Green Bay figured our Jimmy can’t block.

Graham is probably not fully healthy either which they found out quickly after signing him to more insane money than us - but, no, he still can't block...

Kinda like my ex, she couldn't cook because the will to cook wasn't there - where there's a will, there's a way...

Please God no Jimmy Graham. He’s completely done.

Give me TE Jesse James as JP mentioned or even take a flyer on Austin Sefarian-Jenkins. Also, there’s a chance the Buccaneers could cut Cameron Brate because they’re tight on cap space and cutting him frees up $7 million with $0 dead cap.

Brate = Josh Hill

James could really make that right side of the line sing in the run game (we still need to do something at RG, C)...

And James is a receiving weapon as well...

Tyler Eifert would be a gamble because of his injury issues, but there could be some upside if the price is right.

I wouldn't touch Tyler with a ten foot pole at any cost. Eifert was injured in the friggin Pro bowl and missed the 1st 6 games of the 2016 season. Its been downhill ever since. Super talented but he's the real Mr. Glass.

Pass with a capital P.

Brate is an active, good No. 2 TE, so is Josh Hill; also we just committed some coin to Hill so we won't be signing a TE to another No. 2 Tight End...

Plus One. Well, Mr. Armstead is Mr. Glass with his per game costs, but at the end of the day, Major knows where that line of thinking stops - You Gotta be available...

This is pretty much all I have for a wishlist:

TE Jesse James
WR Adam Humphries
DT Darius Philon
SS Tyrann Mathieu

Wow, was reading this morning that Todd Bowles is expected to come in and install a 3-4 defense as the ATL has...

WTF?!? Tampa has among the best, top 5, 4-3 LBers on that roster and you're gonna blow that thing up? Tampa needs defensive backs to make that defense special...

Anyways, some of the fallout may mean DT Gerald McCoy won't be a good fit in the new 3-4 and as he didn't make the ProBowl for the first time, he may get cut loose...

Contending teams may be able to get a one year rental on him if his market doesn't materialize as expected and he decides to enhance his portfolio with a championship ring...

Just something to stow away...

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Free Agency

While I'm not saying to break the bank, Saints really should try to bring back Davison to try to keep that defensive line chemistry intact...

And then there's the matter of how much do we spend to retain Mark Ingram...

Those two contract questions will be among the first to be answered...

The Bucs will free up $13 million in cap space with $0 in dead money if they cut McCoy. They’re tight on cap space so I think he’s as good as gone.

You bet we should go after him! I’d like it a heck of a lot more than last year’s pursuit of Suh.

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Free Agency

Could see the Saints going after Saints Killer WR Golden Tate opposite WR Michael Thomas - cost might be prohibitive though...

Really like Chris's idea of WR Adam Humphries working the underneath stuff - giving Brees a safety release...

I hear you XVI but does Jimmy Dickens make that catch Arnold dropped in the end zone? How about a red zone upgrade? In that Lambs game, inside the 20, it's 10-0 instead of 6-0, no? A lot of us hear probably don't want to hear it but having JG on this team could have made a difference.

I'm on the Jesse James train (blocks, catches well and is young) in Free Agency. Whatever the Saints do, I hope we aren't relying on rookie (via draft) at TE to start and make an immediate impact.

Trotting out undrafted (Hill, Arnold), lower round TE's and expecting them to perform like Gronk or Kelce' in crucial situations has got to stop.

I'd even throw in Mr. Cole Beasley @ slot duties. It's pretty clear that Stephen Jones is moving in a different direction up this way @ DeathStar Nation.

The guy knows how to get open and keep the chains moving on 3rd down. Even with Dak Bortles throwing him the ball.

This may seem unrelated, but you gotta admire the Honey Badger's competitiveness...

I'm with Chris, we need to sign SS/NB Tyrann Mathieu after RB Mark Ingram, NT Tyeler Davison; move Coleman to natural position of FS behind Mr. Marcus, let Bell finish contract as reserve...

Tyrann? The ex St. Aug and LSU great? Sean Payton would never bring this guy in ;).

Seriously speaking, when we signed PRob last season I knew Mathieu wasn't going to happen in NO.

Most least talked about man on the Saints defense.

Circle back to last season when we tried to bring in Wilkerson & Suh ... if either would have signed, they would have ultimately pushed Tyeler out the door. I think the Saints will try to upgrade his position this off season.

IMO, I don't think he returns to NO. There will be a GM/franchise owner that pays him because of experience, youth & the fact that he's a pretty decent defensive tackle/rotational piece.

To be continued...

Biggest needs this off season..

DT that can pass rush
TE
WR
O line

Re-sign Ingram and Dez

We have everything else, let’s just put some money in the refs pockets and we’ll have it locked up.

Depth

We have a solid group of starters but every year we lose a few to injury... no way armstead plays a full season and peat is garbage at LT.

Upgrade over the run defense being No. 1 for most of the season? Davison was the point of attack on an outstanding unit...

As I stated in an earlier post, which you also alluded - it'll probably be a case where a GM will come in and pay him for than what we may have slotted for NT...

He really wants to be here. He loves the culture this team has created. I had my reservations about trying to sign him last year, but I think now the time is right. He showed durability this past season and that he was able to thrive without mentor Patrick Peterson keeping an eye on him.

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Free Agency

Well, I'll say this about the potentially signing the Honey Badger, it'll take adding a couple of competitive-infectious-types to pick this team up off the mat after the officials ripped their heart out on that no-call...

This loss is as devastating to the team and as Marcus Williams' missed-tackle in the divisional playoff was to Mr. Marcus...

Only 26 & can block, catch & has good speed. He's better than anyone we have currently at TE.

Leave no stone unturned during Free Agency period.

Good... now we don’t have to hear about bringing him back for the next month or two.

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Free Agency

We don't really have to much of a choice in signing good FA's. we don't have enough picks to upgrade unless one falls out of grace before the draft. I hope we keep Davison but add another NT to the mix. I could see going after a dynamic lb. in FA ours haven't played bad by no means but add a true stud to that group and it's set. I still don't think we get enough pressure upfront, close but not great. I think if we take care of those 2 positions the backend looks much better. Apple will be even better next season.

Plus one. But, you can't underestimate the boost Jimmy would get playing with Brees under center. But I'd rather have a younger, healthier, available, Jesse James who can block like a mule as a Tight End...

If we geaux with four (4) tight ends next season, assuming we sign Jesse James or better (not sure there is), this position could be a wrecking force against opposing defenses...

And also allow us to bring in some young tackle and give him help with jumbo packages...

But the real upgrade will come from within the organization with Dan Arnold having a whole season under the belt, along with a few extra pounds...
