Saints signed backup TE Garrett Griffin through 2020 season
The New Orleans Saints promoted practice squad tight end Garrett Griffin ahead of the NFC championship game, and he ended up catching a touchdown from quarterback Drew Brees. But a report from Josh Katzenstein of the Times-Picayune suggests that won’t be the last chance Griffin gets to help out New Orleans: when he was promoted, Griffin and the Saints agreed to a three-year contract that secures his future through 2020.
That’s a bigger move than it appears on the surface. The Saints were scheduled to go into free agency with just one tight end under contract for 2019 (bulked-up wide receiver Dan Arnold). But they worked quickly to re-sign veteran Josh Hill in the wake of Ben Watson’s retirement, and were also able to return Griffin on a minimum-salary deal. So now they have a bare-bones depth chart in place at the position. https://saintswire.usatoday.com/2019...hill-contract/ |
"A Veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life."
