Pro Day Report – San Diego State

Tight end Kahale Warring continues to impress NFL teams and move up draft boards. Though he stood on all his combine numbers, he looked chiseled during weigh -ins and stood out in position drills.

Warring displayed an expanded route tree, caught the ball extremely well and looked strong in blocking drills.

Tight end coaches from the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles were on hand to watch Warring, who has already worked out privately for the Miami Dolphins.

Warring, who looks like a lock to be selected during the second day of the draft, met at length with the New Orleans Saints and Denver Broncos.

Offensive tackle Ryan Pope significantly improved his 40 time from the combine, clocking as fast as 5.07 seconds. He also touched 28.5 inches in the vertical jump.

Multiple sources tell me Pope looked solid in position drills.

Pope met with the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night, Washington Redskins on Friday and worked out for the Indianapolis Colts today.

Interesting...

Sounds pretty darn accurate to me; especially planning to acquire another early pick by trading away future picks. Payton and Loomis have alluded to that recently but we all assumed they meant trading players for more picks.

Trading players has many more adverse cap implications. Teams would much rather deal in future picks.

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Draft Prospects (NFL Combine)

I’m very much convinced that we will trade our 2020 2nd round pick for a 3rd round pick this year. We can look at what we did in 2017 to acquire Kamara as the blueprint. As a refresher of what we did:

Saints traded 2017 7th round pick+2018 2nd round pick in exchange for 49ers 3rd round pick (pick #67.)

This year, I look to the Patriots as trade partners because they have 3 picks in the 3rd round. We can shoot for their pick #73.

What could we come away with? Preferably something like this:

62. WR Hakeem Butler (Iowa St)
Height: 6-5 Weight: 227
40 Time: 4.48
Vert: 36”

73. OL Michael Deiter (Wisconsin)
Height: 6-5 Weight: 309

Michael Deiter has started at LG, C and LT. He would make Peat expendable and save us a lot of money.

Before Max Unger retired, I would have agreed but now not so much.

I think Peat remains on the roster in 2019. Could be wrong but just my guess.

The biggest issue with Peat is his Porsche price tag. He's scheduled to make more than Warford this year. What gives him value (trade) is that he's started at LT.

Not saying we trade him this season but take the Patriots approach. Always look to improve or deepen your OL.
