Saints rookie review: Tre'Quan Smith had flashes, but looks to improve with deeper understanding

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Player development isn't linear. He was a rookie and as a poster stated, he "flashed" his potential. Tre' must learn better technique . A lot of his 1st season woes were mental more than anything. If he wasn't high school ...

Player development isn't linear.

He was a rookie and as a poster stated, he "flashed" his potential. Tre' must learn better technique. A lot of his 1st season woes were mental more than anything. If he wasn't high school wide open catching a pass or a ball hitting him between the 1 and the zero, he wasn't all that effective. You really couldn't count on him outside of being wide open.

Winning one on one battles & better route running must improve. Get back in the film room and study this off season.

Good read..
I find it odd that nobody filled him in on any of these silly details.
Sounds like he understood it but hasn’t been able to put it into action.
He has all offseason to try and understand it. I have high hopes for him.

Know I'm gonna sound like a bit of an apologists here, but consideration has to be made for the sheer number of rookie receivers - at one time...

So you don't get as much of that quality one-on-one time with the rookie(s)...

I suspect we'll see a big leap in the receiving corps as things get rolling this upcoming season

I guess JP.

All I know is up this way in Death Star Nation, rookie Michael Gallup (taken in the 3rd rd as Tre) had no issues adjusting, studying and creating separation with Dak Bortles throwing to him...even in the post season (119 yards) vs Rams. They had just as many rookies @ WR on their roster as the Saints.

Again, Tre needs to step up in 2019.

Where was the coaching on the details? I know he had to get more one on one attention when he moved up the roster. I like that he can run a lot of different routes but will he be able to get separation or battle for the ball and bring it down consistently enough to earn Drews trust?

Older player coming off the same injury as Dez.

I'd rather re sign Bryant (if possible) & see what he brings to the table.

Hard pass for me on DT.

There is a huge difference in knowing the details in theory and in the classroom compared to be able to process the information you see on every play going at full speed in the NFL and act accordingly.

There weren't enough Veteran Presents to go around!! Didn't Dallas all of a sudden become good after spending a No. 1 for some guy named COOPER?

No question. Point I was attempting to illustrate was that we had several rookies come into the system all at once; so it's not just him that should be improved Year 2, but Kirkwood, essentially new position Arnold...

So part of the problem was a system issue figuring all those rookies out, where they best fit, and splitting all that one-on-one-Coach-Curtis-Whoopin'-Stick-Training among more rookies than usual...

If anything, he ran away from everyone in TC like a bat-outta-hell (cue Meatloaf) and then, some reason, just disappeared like Homer Simpson into the shrubs...

Injury? Lifestyle adjustment? Maturity? 3rd round pick, you right, he's gotta step it up...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
