I'm lukewarm on this one. Jared has consistently underachieved through his career. Hoping for the best though. On paper he's an upgrade.

Great news! Definitely needed upgrade at TE position. Cook is athletic freak. Sean will have fun with this guy in our offense. We will see more seam trows from Brees (probably his best throw). Nice addition.

If Ben Watson plays vs Rams we are in the super bowl. Cook is just as good if not better than Watson in his prime.

I can understand apprehension about signing Jared Cook, but it’s been a long time since we’ve had a TE that could really exploit LB’s and safeties in coverage with his athleticism.

I think this signing makes sense for us as long as we didn't overpay. What else were we going to do? Trade up in the draft for a TE with the picks we don't have?

I hope we didn't over pay but Cook is a great tight end. He's an excellent blocker to boot. I'm looking forward to seeing him in Black and Gold.

Good pickup. Extremely difficult to get a decent TE these days. Only about 4 decent ones. After that it falls off a cliff. Drafting one is not an option because they normally take years to develop. If he stays healthy no reason he can't hit 1K yards and 10 plus TDs.

Shored up? We had the 8th highest rated offensive line following week 17 of last season. The only starter being replaced is Unger, and he was playing hurt down the stretch. Brees ended up being the least sacked starting QB in the entire league. There is no reason for someone to believe that we won't have one of the top tier offensive lines in the NFL once again ... unless that someone is an eternal pessimist.

BS the line was hot garbage once people started going down. That’s a cold hard fact. Armstead will only play 8 games, Unger is gone. Those two are huge assets. Last year has nothing to do with this year.

I was lukewarm on signing Ted Ginn because he was constantly underachieving. he has been really solid for us since he got here and i hope it will be the same thing with Cook.

Due to his track record it’s safe and reasonable to assume he probably will miss time.
It’s basic survival to take into account a persons history as you assess them.

By your logic you could have a girlfriend who goes out and cheats regularly but because it’s a new week you decide to give her the benefit of the doubt that it won’t happen again.

Wouldn't know about that. Been married to a wonderful woman for 30 years now. Your analogy is flawed by pessimism.

And it is not "safe and reasonable to assume" (you know what they say about that word) that he will miss eight games as you declared as pretty much a certainty.

Oh, and do those sores hurt? Never had one.

Not taking that bet because you'll be pulling for him to get injured. Hopefully not consciously, but still the added negative vibes will be there. It happened last year with Meredith. I'm all for minimizing the gris gris this season.
