The AAF will suspend all football operations

It’s not over. But it’s close.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Alliance of American Football will be suspending all football operations within the next few hours.

The league won’t be folding, yet. But it seems to be moving in that direction.

The move comes in the aftermath of ominous comments from Tom Dundon, who became majority owner of the AAF several weeks ago. Dundon committed $250 million in funding to the league, but he had the ability to pull funding, and he obviously has.

AAF on PFT - Already?

I don't get this whole NFLPA practice squad ends the season thing. They already have teams with rosters to play out the season. Folks were starting to come around. There is and always will be a lot of players that wash out from the NFL that could be "household names" in the AAF giving the league time to show it is a successful product.

I don't get how they can start these new leauge without making sure they have funding for atleast a season. Its not a serious business practise.

At $250K per player they must have just set it too high.

They said actual costs were much greater than they had expected.

Maybe it''s a sign that NFL will be coming back down to earth in terms of player salaries and team valuations.

I remember a lot of lousy play across the board & bad announcers which may have turned off a lot of viewers. Maybe they will have a pre season game or two to get audiences "interested".

I thought that coin toss thing they did was silly too. 2 guys making a dash for the ball at center field...

It will be interesting to see what they do differently second time around.

That is driven off of TV contracts and those should keep spiraling upwards. Team values will keep going up and player pay (salary cap) is tied to the TV revenue. Players are getting paid no more than they deserve to get paid ... which is what their employers are willing to pay. I never have had any issue with what any professional athlete makes.
