From my readings on both of these young kids ...

Excellent team mates, leaders on offense (Erik), leaders on defense (Gardner- Johnson) & have played in a lot of meaningful SEC games.

Gardner - Johnson is a two time (2016, 2018) BOWL GAME MVP so we know the NFL stage won't be too big for him.

I'm just glad we selected him before the Cows did. They were really high on drafting Chauncey. "You snooze, you lose".

I didn’t get the second safety either. Mostly because we had just picked one and we need more depth in other positions. I have heard several knocks on him and think we could have done better. But can’t complain about the draft as a whole. We did a lot better with what we had than most teams would have done.

Don't look at him as a "second" safety. Look at him as a potential special team player. Stated position is meaningless when filling out the special teams.

I used to do the same, so I am just making a point about draft profile weaknesses.

Would you draft QB1 after reading this? - Negatives: Plays in the spread offense, taking the bulk of his snaps from the shotgun... Tends to side-arm his passes going deep...Lacks accuracy and touch on his long throws... Seems more comfortable in the short/intermediate passing attack......Will improvise and run when the passing lanes are clogged, but tends to run through defenders rather than trying to avoid them to prevent unnecessary punishment.

Would you draft QB2 after reading these scout comments?
- "(Alex) Smith is the better athlete."
- "I think he has a good chance of being a bust."
- "I don't like him. He's a clone of Harrington and Boller. They all throw the same way. What have those guys done? Nothing."
- "He's a system quarterback. 3-, 5-, 7-step guy. Can't create on his own. Panics under pressure. Gets flustered easy. I don't think there's a quarterback in the draft worthy of a first-round pick. I'm dead serious. None of them are worth it."

More like Wine Saps to Granny Smiths. They are all "players" It's the difference between picking one directly off the tree (the draft) or going to the store to purchase one (free agents) Still doesn't change the percent of free agent players being 3rd behind 1st and 2nd round selections making the roster. That tells you that more free agents make teams than the infamous "MID ROUND VALUE PICKS" There was a time when the NFL draft went 17 rounds. Most of the "free agents" would have been draft choices in those days.

McCoy and Gradner-Johnson are the truth. Hampton will have to prove me wrong. Buggs or Udoh would have been my choices. Mack has serious potential. Elliss is a steal for sure. Two starters. Four out of five make the team. Two or three UDFA's make the team. None will break the bank or be franchise killers if they bust. B+
