Don Shula rips Jimmy Johnson

EX- coach on ex-coach
By Alex Marvez
Sun-Sentinel

Don Shula recently lambasted Jimmy Johnson for trampling on the franchise's history upon replacing him as coach in 1996.

"One of the first things that he said at the opening banquet was that he doesn't care what they've done here in the past. All he's interested in is the future," Shula said last week on Fox Sports Radio.

"Our fans are so proud of the accomplishments of the Dolphins starting in 1970 and the perfect season and back-to-back Super Bowls. ... And then Johnson wants to throw all that [away] and just talk about his own accomplish-ments, and they turned out to be non-accomplishments."

Shula praised Saban for the way he is handling the Dolphins' legacy as the franchise enters its 40th season.

Said Shula: "Green Bay is pretty proud of [its] history. The Bears are proud of their history. The Giants are proud of their history.

"We have more to be proud of than any of them. And Nick Saban, I think, has embraced that."

I Agree With Shula

Don Shula is right. When you have a history like the Dolphins have you don't just forget about it.

I wish the Saints had the history that the dolphins have. Only if The Dome Patrol could have had an offense to compliment them. we would have had a history to be proud of. Most people don't realize how close the Saints were to prominence 15 years ago.

RE: I Agree With Shula

Hey what are you talking about, we do have a history... one of the most losing team in football. Thats a history to be proud of, lol. I guess someone knew LA would route for an underdog so lets give them a permenant one.

But let's not forget that L.A. is the City of Angels... so it'd be pretty appropriate, the Anaheim Angels and the Anaheim Saints.... how fitting.

I personally think the Saints will move there some day. And they will win the Suprbowl there. But that day is -not- today. They're still ours for now.

Yeah LA has done so well at that in the past .....

Both the Rams and the Raiders have the same slogan .

" L.A. a great place to be from " .

I'll try, but you know how he gets. His walkie talkie doesn't get the same reception inside as it does outside, and it makes it hard for him to keep in touch with Billy, who is monitoring AB's ever move from a strategic vantage point (AB's bushes).

shula was great in his era but stayed beyondhis time. johnson was a pretty good coach. he won two in a row and if he had stayed it may have been four. we all know it would have been three out of 4 at least.
