You say that Jake was a bad move. So you think it would have been a good move to invest $2 million a year in a backup QB? I don\'t.
Contrary to popular belief, teams have little to no control over who free agents sign with. |

Bobby Hebert, Sam Mills, Wesley Walls, didn\'t Rickey Jackson go to SF? David Waymer did. That\'s off the top of my head, I\'m sure there\'s a lot more.
Black and Blue is right that teams have no control over who FAs sign with. Jake is hard to call though. $2 million a year sounds like a lot, but we\'ll probably have to spend a million or more on his replacement (if we want a decent one). It\'s a really tough spot for a fan. On the one hand, I want to see Delhomme do well. On the other, you never want one of your good players going to a division rival. Further, I would have liked to see Jake stay as insurance. He makes our team better and you never know. The Saints could tank this up-coming season, Haslett could get canned, and a new coach could come in and see Delhomme as the better fit for a west coast offense. He\'s certainly cheaper, and if Brooks\' play isn\'t stellar you have to wonder if Delhomme isn\'t a better value. |

Not gonna argue with you there. I\'m still not sold on Brooks\' tenacity and it\'s adverse effect on the game. I\'m sure I\'ll get scorched for that remark
And yes, Rickey Jackson did go to SF, and won a super bowl, then came back to NO to retire as a Saint. That was the only time I EVER rooted for the 49ers, cause Jackson deserved a ring. |

I\'ll tell you one that doesn\'t rank as high in saintly-hood as the others that have already been mentioned...Jim Everett.
I know this is a little of topic because he didn\'t go to a division rival, but he was cut by Ditka because he wasn\'t a \"Ditka-type\" player. He eventually signed with San Diego. That same season the Saints played the Chargers and all I can remember from the game is Jim Everett throwing a touchdown pass and as he turned to run up the field, he gave Ditka the biggest in-your-face look you could imagine. There we were with that year\'s \"Franchise Savior\", Heath Shuler, who was trying to set a record for most interceptions in a season, getting our butts handed to us by the QB that wasn\'t \"tough enough\" for Ditka. I\'ve always wondered whether it was me or whether it was true that the players we lost always played better against us than the players we got through free agency played against their former teams. It sure seemed like it. |

I know the guy didn\'t go to a team in our conference much less our division but, didn\'t Ricky Williams have his best year so far and go to the pro bowl after leaving the Saints? I am not a big Ricky fan but, give credit where credit is due. Let\'s see...Can you say Wes Chandler? Wesley Walls?

Black and Blue I will register the Jake comments......we will watch the season unfold. I wish him well and a chance to play, but I can\'t think of many better backups. This is a far stretch but I remember at Tampa Bay they had a million dollar backup, whom they let go for financial reasons.......Steve Young

Our \"star\" quarterback was a back up in Green Bay and HERE before Blake went down.

Black and Blue , that $2 million will look like a bargain when Brooks\' shoulder doesn\'t fully recover from injury and delayed surgery.
