RE: hey papz, question
I've seen Pearman play a lot in college... he's a pretty solid back. I don't think he'll ever get to start in the NFL, but he'll provide depth. He'll have a long career as a backup. I'm not saying he's not talented, but with Fred Taylor, Greg Jones, and LaBrandon Toefield... he probably won't get a chance to shine.
As for Mathis, besides being extremely fast (combine numbers), I have no clue about him. He was a division two guy and they usually don't get the publicity. Plus Division 2 games aren't usually televised besides the playoffs. I do know he had a great combine and was probably the fastest and most explosive guy there. |

well, from what i've read about pearman, he may prove you wrong.
he's suppose to be the best pass catching back in this draft. if he gets a chance to prove that, i'm sure he could break in at some point.......as for mathis, i have'nt looked at his stats, but if he can catch and catch on, he may be the donte we were hoping for.............smitty |

Nope. :P
Well Pearman had to split time with Lundy in college and still put up over 1,000 yards... so he definately has the ability. They played against some stiff competetion such as Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Miami, Maryland... schools with outstanding defenses and he put up good numbers against them. Remember I didn't say he won't be good, I'm just saying he's stuck behind on the Jags depth chart. He would make a great 3rd down back with his hands and big play ability on 3rd and long draw plays etc. If he put on another 10-15 pounds, anything could happen. He weighs less than 205 and is 5'9. Here is Mathis' analysis that I got off the net: POSITIVES: Explosive pass catcher with homerun hitting speed. Physical and battles to make the tough reception. Easily outruns opponents down the field and a scoring threat any time he gets his hands on the ball. NEGATIVES: Has character questions, which must be answered. Very raw and must improve his route running skills and pass catching consistency. Does not consistently play to his timed speed. ANALYSIS: A prospect everyone is talking about after an outstanding Combine, Mathis is a tremendous athlete still developing as a football player. Possesses the size to be a number one receiver at the next level, yet not the sure thing many are making him out to be. Offers tremendous long-term potential and can be a big play threat as a rookie in the NFL, but must fully develop his game. |
