I tend to agree and I think time distorts perception. Akiem is a very good player now but he wasn't giving 100% while in NO. Some of that blame falls on our coaching staff at the time though ... especially the Big Lebowski (Rob Ryan). He tried to re shape his players (benching Hicks in favor of Richardson)to fit a "system" rather than doing what the above average coaches do.
Gotta believe things would have been a lot different for Akiem in New Orleans if Coach Nielsen was the DL coach during those times. IMO AHicks was a very good draft pick by us but required the proper coaching & personnel to shine. |
