The idea seems so preposterous that I had to look over it several times to make sure I was actually reading what I thought I was reading.

Andrew Beaton of the Wall Street Journal reported Friday the NFL is considering an 18-game schedule.

OK, so that's nothing new.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has been floating that idea round since 2008.

But here's the eyebrow-raising caveat.

According to the report, every player would be limited to playing in just 16 of the 18 games.

So if you're a Saints fan, you'd have two games where you wouldn't see Drew Brees. Alvin Kamara would have to sit out two games too. Michael Thomas. Cam Jordan. Everybody.

Sean Payton would basically be playing fantasy football, trying to pick and choose which games he has a better chance of winning without some of his star players.

And what about the fans spending their hard-earned money to go to a game where one of their favorite players isn't playing?

The league, of course, would be the big winner in this, making all the extra revenue that would come with tacking two more weeks onto the schedule.

The proposed 16-game limit is the league's way of making more money, while at the same time not putting so much wear and tear on the bodies of its players by keeping them playing the same amount of games they currently play.

Chances are, the players will never agree to such a schedule.

What player would want to be forced to sit out two games in a season where every game is important?

Money money money they’ll get used to it.lets say it all gets going this season , wouldn’t it be interesting to let bridge have a shot with most of the starting line. Or just stomach the preseason another year.

One of the greatest dumb ideas of all time. It would ruin every aspect of the game to include Fantasy Football. It would kill an entire industry.

To all the youngsters , it was the same smack when it was a 14 game season . Without a thing called fantasy. Until the nfl owns fantasy it will be a 20 game season in 2044

Negative.

On the surface it sounds appealing in June when we all are starving for football, but by week 12 I'm ready for the playoffs to begin.

You think injuries are an issue now? Add 2 more games and see what happens.

But at the end of the day, it comes down to money.

If the backup QB goes down and the team only rosters two.....and what about kicker. The product on the field would suffer so bad. Every team would be handcuffed the entire regular season.

It would also cause more injuries. If I'm the backup anything I'm going out there with the intent to make a name for myself...sacrificing my body and throwing any caution to the wind.

This would be horrible on so many levels. If they want more games and some players don't get enough opportunities to play, why not start a minor league? What a radical concept.

They talked about this supposed "proposal" today on NFL Radio's Moving the Chains. Pat Kirwan said that he has no doubt the proposal was meant as humor (or humour for our beyond the pond friends). He said that nobody in the front office, coaching, or player communities would ever consider anything like this seriously.

I see it as a ridiculous low ball (or high ball as the case may be) just to keep the ball itself rolling toward the next CBA.

Bet that would add some strategy to the game. That being said I like it the way it is.
