USA Today/Saints Wire: How many positions did Taysom Hill play in 2018?

Taysom Hill did a bit of everything for the New Orleans Saints in 2018. He threw some passes, caught some others, ran roues, blocked, and often took the ball himself and barreled through opposing defenses. He made some fun impact plays whenever he took the field. It was great to see him overcome an injury-riddled college career to succeed as a pro, using all the gifts at his disposal as a 6-foot-2, 230 pound wrecking ball with 4.44 speed.

But how many positions did Hill play? Per Pro Football Focus charting, Hill mainly split his time between seven different positions. Here’s the breakdown:

Quarterback: 64 snaps
Tight end: 62 snaps
Wide receiver: 43 snaps
Slot receiver: 28 snaps
Halfback/Fullback: 13 snaps
Kickoff coverage/returns: 199 snaps
Punt coverage/returns: 119 snaps
Field goal block: 69 snaps
Miscellaneous: 64 snaps

That last bullet point accounts for any uncategorized spots Hill occupied — such as lining up as an extra blocker or gunner on special teams coverage. Basically when it wasn’t clear exactly what he was doing. The guy’s done so much they might have to make a new designation for him...

Hill is one hell of an athlete & football player.

Oh and we don't beat Tampa Bay without his blocked punt that completely changes the momentum. Dude just shows up and leaves it all on the field every single week. Glad he's on my team.

Time to go get it in 2019.
