Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
I think we all saw this coming. |
Source: Saints part ways with receiver Cameron Meredith
This is unfortunate but next man up.
METAIRIE, La. -- The New Orleans Saints released wide receiver Cameron Meredith on Monday, just four days into his second training camp with the team, a source confirmed to ESPN. The former Chicago Bears standout was hoping to finally return from a major 2017 knee injury, but the Saints apparently didn't see enough to believe that a comeback would be possible. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...eiver-meredith |

Mods,
Please delete my Cam Meredith post. Didn't see this was already posted by XVI. |
Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
This is unfortunate for Mr. Meredith.
Many will forget he tore his ACL & MCL while in Chicago. Devastating injury that could realistically end his career. Prior to that, he was on his way to becoming a solid player. I really wanted this to work out. Wishing you nothing but the best going forward :bng:. |
Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
Kudos to the franchise for committing money and time to the kid’s recovery effort. And releasing him early in camp. Wish him well. In hindsight the money would’ve been better spent but hey, that’s the breaks.
On a positive note I’m thrilled to see Butler’s game! |

Who are the f*cking Docs advising Payton and the Mickster on medicals for contracts?!? Are we still employing Ochsner Docs?!?

how's Dez doin'?

Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
Next up trade Thomas. He’s just going to get injured at this point and it sounds like our WRs are just fine anyway. Thomas will wind up being worse than Antonio Brown anyway.

Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
It was a massive gamble. Payton usually pulls at least one of these a season. It's normally 50/50 working out. I bet he does it again before PS. There are some decent Veteran that are going to be cut or available for trade. Jerrick McKinnon would be a nice pickup if available. Not exactly healthy but could come in handy down the stretch.

Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
I think this move was more about freeing cap for the Thomas deal and the emergence of Butler early in camp than Meredith himself. He has to have been cleared on the injury front or his release would have had to have been tied to an injury settlement.

That's a darn shame. I was rooting for the guy but injuries are tricky stuff.

Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
I'm ok with this, because I predict that Tre'quan will be a pro-bowl caliber player.

YEAH!!! ASK THE MIAMI DOCS ABOUT BREES, THEY PASSED AND SIGNED A "HEALTHY" CULPEPPER!!! A GUY CAN BE PERFECTLY HEALTHY AND "TEAR UP" SOMETHING JUST WALKING. ASK DEZ |

Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
Sounds like it was a good decision to cut Meredith now and give him a chance to catch on somewhere else. If nothing else we will still keep tabs on him, can't rule out bringing him back down the road. I think he still has #2 WR potential but the injury recovery has made it difficult.

Theo is great in the passing game, can't believe he shook loose from the Lions. Put him and Kamara in the same backfield and along with Cook ... dang ... it's a 2B, 1TE set, but in reality it's more like 4WR, 1TE set :p. Man if this works out I can't wait for Sean to eff with defenses! |
Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
We've got a lot better options at WR.

Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
With Emmanuel Butler showing the way he has so far, Meredith was already in a deep hole without any reagrrivated injuries.
I'm just hoping that Butler isnt an Adrian Arrington, lights up camp and does nothing else. |

I fell for AA becoming the next Colston after he would hang the cleats up and we wouldn’t miss a beat . He should have not come out of college early |
Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
If we don't need him them I'm fine with it even though I really wanted him to work out.

Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
Trade Thomas. Frame it as it is. They tried to make him the highest paid WR in the league and he refused. They can't completely blow up their cap for one guy. Kamara, Lattimore, Ramczyk, Peat and Apple are all soon to be looking for new deals. Thomas deserves to get paid. But, without Brees he's just very good. Of course. it won't happen. They won't mess with team chemistry and do something that might hinder this season in the ever so quickly devolving window that is Bree's career. I get it. I understand it. But, in three years this team is not going to be fun to watch.

In retrospect Adrian Arrington didn't have the body to survive the pro game for very long. In our offense you've got to have the strength to seal off defenders and finish the routes. I think Butler has this going for him more than AA. |

Tells me that what we have in camp is better than he at his best

Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
Butler is getting a lot of praise and is the current camp darling.
At 6'3" 220, speed and good hands, he seems like he could stick. |
Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
No surprise here. Needed this money for MT

The only blowing up of the cap in the NFL has been the cap value itself. $120 million in 2011. $188 million now. Growing by more than $10 million a year for the last 4 years. We should all know by now that NFL contracts are not worth the paper they are written on. The Saints could deliver CGM a 6 year $126 million with $66 million guaranteed and all of the following would not be true: not 6 years, not $126 million, not $21 million a year, and not blow up the cap. In fact the only real number that's there is the $66 million. With NFL contracts the only numbers to pay attention to are the guaranteed money. The rest is monopoly money that will either get restructured, or extended, or completely cut depending on the performance of the player after the guaranteed dollars are delivered. As I pointed out in my other post, that $21 million eventual cap hit is actually less percentagewise than cap hits for WR in the past. Larry Fitzgeralds 2011 cap hit of $16.8 million was 13% of the 2011 salary cap. By the time CGM gets anywhere near a $20 million cap hit, the cap will be above $200 million, meaning that the hit would be less than 10% of the cap. Every NFL contract for virtually every elite player in every position will be the highest of all time for the 5 minutes it's the latest contract. It's just not worth getting hung up on that phrase. Just take a look at the extension signed by Kevin Byard of the Titans this week: 5 years, $70.5 million, $33 guaranteed, $14.1 million average. It tops out the contract for Landon Collins and the next safety will get even more. BTW note the relevant number is missing, $33 million guaranteed. Byard can be cut 3 years into the extension and never see the back end money. And of course, it didn't blow up the Titans' cap. SFIAH |

Just stop it SFIAH, you're making way too much sense.

Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
I know I had a bet with dicknozzle over there about Cam last year but I really did want to see him work out. I was hoping he and Smith would make everyone forget about last years receiving corps. I really hoped they would be an unexpected surprise. I still think Smith will come into his own. People give him a bad shake but it’s not every day that 3rd round players like Kamara come out of the wood pile and make a huge impact right away

Wishing him well where ever he goes. Really bummed out it didn't work for us, but he's had a history with injuries which was the biggest concern with signing him last year.
|
Re: Saints Release WR Cameron Meredith
He's a Patriot now. He'll go off for 150 receiving yards and 3 TDs in a blow out regular season win and then we'll be wondering why we let him go.
