The current lease on the Louisiana Superdome ends in 2025. With 2020 well on its way, the negotiation process already began earlier this year when the LSED (Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District) announced plans for renovations of the Superdome to modernize the gameday experience and expand on-going renovations of the Superdome to keep it competative in an ever expanding NFL stadium market (NOLA.com Article)

As most of you know, The Advocate purchased the Times-Picayune earlier this year. NOLA.com now redirects to a New Orleans sub-page for The Advocate. The Advocate's owner is John Georges who has now become quite the media tycoon in Louisiana. Georges has run for political office on several occasions including Governor of Louisiana. Today NOLA.com wrote a headline "Saints, Louisiana officials working to keep team here for '30 more years,' John Bel Edwards says". Link

Although we appreciate the Governor's support for NFL football in Louisiana, much of the information in the article was already known to the public and has already been in the works.

Due to its timing, the article practically reads as an advertisement for the re-election of Governor John Bel Edwards Campaign. His platform is now keeping the Saints in New Orleans.

What's disturbing here are the puff pieces and lack of critical journalism that has come from NOLA.com since the sale of the Times-Picayune to The Advocate. NOLA.com has become an advertising page for favorites of Georges. This may be "friendly tactics" by Georges to exert favoritism with currently elected officials for the benefit of his businesses, as well as to potentially bolster his own favor-ability for a future run at political office like Governor in Louisiana.
