Met him personally at the Best Buy on Veterans - absolutely one of the nicest, most gracious Saint I've ever met, right on par with Archie...

My little girl (at the time) is extremely smart, matured mentally fast, was three years old. Anyways she's picking out a video and was giggling at this man on the other aisle of the videos flirting with her...

I'd had some scary encounters when in public with her as she was a gorgeous baby (paternity was affirmed), so I was alert when I saw this grown man flirting with her...

He stood up shook my hand and introduced himself, we returned in-kind. He complemented me, said her Mom must be beautiful, and he laughed when I said Thanks, alot...

Just as I tried wish him the best on the upcoming season. Two Vanilla Ice Wannabees came up and wanted to show "AB" an unstoppable play they'd devised on Madden or whatever the game was then...

They hounded him as we walked down the aisle after my girl; On behalf of calm white people everywhere, I'd apologized, and recommended he make an escape - he again laughed and said it's okay...

He showed class, telling them something like "Fellas, I'm visiting, if you'd give me a few minutes, I'd like to finish visiting and then when I check out, we can discuss it at the front of the store..."

He asked where'd I had my daughter in PreSchool, and I told him that I was home-based self-employed and she went everywhere with me, even to Tulane, and her Mom and I started her education early at home...

He appreciated me keeping it conversation real, not just Saints. While I cursed some of his play later, have tremendous respect for him (only exception - not defending Turley vs the Jets who'd had his back)...

Aaron Brooks, at least in my experiences was one class act gentleman...



Punchline - have some cousins who "married up". Their in-laws are UVA alum and were throwing an UVA/NoLA NCAABB party; I'd met my cousin and her sister at Tulane and offered to run them up St. Charles Ave...

Brooks (UVA) made a cameo (her inlaws are connected), and as we'd stuck our heads in, he saw and called out my girl's name - she walked up, hugged him, said she was proud of his play (she's four then)...

He asked if she really watched him and she said Sundays after church, it's me and Daddy, Saints Sundays - Don't know who smiled more made my cousins' in-laws green with jealously -it so made my week...

Anyways I share this not to brag (well, maybe on my daughter), but to demonstrate kind of person, class act he was when we met him...

I met him as well but at the hall of fame reception and auction. I was shocked that he was so nice and friendly. Got a picture and everything with him. I guess you really can’t judge a book by its cover. I didn't much care for him before i met him but after meeting him he's ok in my book.

That one season before he got hurt, he was killing it. Think we were 8-1 or something Saints fans had never seen the likes of before. They left him in there but the man was struggling. Should have benched him. I think today he would have been allowed to heal or put on IR.

I always felt we should have kept Blake another year. End of the day Blake was the one that got us there. Brooks got the playoff win but that win was insane fluked out. Jackson had I think 3 TD's, then the Milne recovery.

Hey, it got the playoff winless monkey off are backs and for that, am grateful for his brave play...

Oh, totally with you. That was a massive hurdle we finally got over. I think that is why he got put on a pedestal. If that injury never happens to Blake...I think we keep Blake another year if he gets that playoff W.

I've had that discussion with other Saints fans who complained about him. I asked, "If the QB is hurt, everyone knows he is hurt, and he is still in the game, is that his fault or the Coach?"

I blame Haslet for his performance those games.

It was a horrible situation because we could have won some of those games in 2002 with Delhomme down the stretch. The fans were screaming for Delhomme but they refused.

We had the 3rd ranked offense. One more win and we were in the playoffs. Ended up losing to the worst team in the league at the end, the 2-14 Bengals.

Sorry.....I'm not a fan. I never met the man but I watched him play. That was enough for me. He might be a nice guy but he was a terrible QB.

I would not go as far to say he was terrible. He was an avg qb which was better than what we had for 20 years. I don't dislike him but i can't get over the Cinci game.........

Aaron Brooks was the best QB in our franchise history prior to Brees' arrival. I have never understood the hate fans give him.

Prior to Brooks, the best statistical season we had from a QB was Jim Everett's 1995 season. It's a shame we didn't have Everett back in the Dome Patrol days, cause we most likely would've won some playoff games and may have even reached a SB. Bobby Hebert was not a good quarterback and he had some of his worst career games in the playoffs. For some reason he has always gotten a pass for this, but if you're bored, go pull the stats and re-watch the 1991 and 1992 playoff losses. Hebert was the Blake Bortles of playoff QBs back in those seasons when the Dome Patrol was at their peak and he was the ultimate weakness that held those teams back. There is a reason we were desperate enough to get completely robbed trading with Dallas to acquire Steve Walsh who turned out to be a bust.

We all love Archie and he is a great 'what could've been' player in NFL history, but there was no light at the end of the tunnel for what I call your dad or grandfather's Saints. Archie is also heavily debated in stat communities because the Saints shockingly became worse with him starting at QB. The argument there is that a good QB can elevate a bad team and make them win a few games they should lose. That didn't happen with Archie starting, and this was a trend that sadly followed him through his career. On the flip side in defense of Archie, you can make the case that he was put behind horrible o-lines that let him get mauled in his first two seasons before he had any chance to really develop.

Everyone forgets that we were actually leading in the division back in 2002 and we had the tie breaker over Tampa Bay thanks to sweeping them. Brooks had his best game of the year carving up the Tampa defense, and then our season was completely derailed when he got injured and Haslett kept him out there with a messed up shoulder.

The Haslett era Saints were a consistent mediocre team that was always in the race for the playoffs, but couldn't ever get over the hump. Brooks was not to blame for a lot of their problems.

I would still rather have Aaron Brooks in 2003 than Jake Delhomme. The stats speak for themselves and Brooks outperformed Delhomme all year. The hype for Delhomme was because Carolina was a flukey team squeaking out nailbiter wins all year long. Over half of their wins all year, including playoffs were by a touchdown or less, including 4 OT wins. In the SB vs New England, they were set to get blown out until the Patriots secondary faced injuries and that was when Delhomme lit them up with the bomb passes.

By DelHomme's own admission he "didn't have a clue" about being an NFL QB till Mike McCarthy taught him. If you don't play you can't use what you're taught. Look at what he did when given the chance.

Hebert's problem was Mora; with a different HC in the Mora era the Saints would have won multiple Super Bowls.

Bobby did indeed suck. I recall Gerry Glandsville saying he was the toughest QB he ever seen. That's not really a compliment. What he meant to say was we knocked the living crap out of him over and over and he got back up. Gerry didn't say he was a good QB.

Comparing quarterbacks of different eras is a non-starter...

Pass defense rules are stricter; we now have roughing the passer; advances in offensive scheme, i.e. West Coast Offense; hell, the fricking ball is even different, subtle, but significantly different...

So you compare QBs within their era...

Archie Manning was the only QB (maybe Neil Lomax, once) who made ProBowls off of losing teams at that time; Archie was even named NFC player of the year (MVP runner-up) on a losing team - on a losing team...

Brees is our best QB in franchise history, but even he's never won a League MVP - so there's some context...

Talent-wise, Archie Manning is the Best Quarterback we ever had, I know this because I HAVE watched many of his games, I saw more than the stat books can tell you...

As far as the team getting worse with Manning, that's BS that you have to be clear it wasn't because of Archie, and you need to gather more data and look beyond who was listed as the starter QB...

For if you are up to the challenge, you will find that when the Saints did acquire quality supporting talent when they became valuable vets, they were moved by owner/gm John Mecom for cheaper players...

FYI, (Y= Y'all's) that's insight to why Archie wouldn't let Eli go to the Chargers, as that family has said "never again" would they play for sh*tty owners...

Archie was the only player arguably compensated, and people came to see Archie, not the Saints play - the Saints weren't really a team until Mr. Finks took over...

But whatever real competitiveness the Saints had, it was because of Archie...

AB thread... I feel like I should say something.

Maybe this: I miss the days when we would have to argue about whether we should take just about any rookie QB over AB... because it was so entertaining. But I don't miss them that much. ;)
