Offensive Screen Pass

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; It seems like forever since we have had a screen pass that works in our offensive scheme. The last time I remember it being an effective weapon Dalton Hilliard and Bobby Hebert were here. Is this the year it returns?...

RE: Offensive Screen Pass

with poor blocking we haven't be able to do anything. Plus defenses account for Deuce, believe that. He draws attention, which makes it difficult to run him as a decoy out to the flat and as soon as you pull a linemen to wear Deuce is going someone is going to follow.

This is a subject we touch on every year about this time. BillyC and I use to discuss (if you can do with BC) this. The Saints have had several qb's and rb's since Dalton and Bobby tandem. We couldn't run it with any of them since. Rickey couldn't do it either. I'm not saying it was because of Rickey or Brooks (but brooks maybe) in fact I have no idea why we can't run it. God knows our offense stands on the sidelines eack week and watches other teams run it against us enough.

That was my #5 key to success in a prior thread. I think this would be huge if we can develope a nice screen play with Duece. Maybe with the O-line upgrades this will be possible.

When you play some teams (Falcons, for example), you spy the QB.

When you play the Saints, the first place a LB's eyes go is Deuce McAllister.

Very true. It would be nice to see a good screen. And defend one too. I can't really say how well we defended them last year. I can remember Alstott eating us alive with the screen in years past. Although he is a freakin horse. Or was anyway.

Possibly run it in a two back set?? Fake to Deuce with Stecker running out to the flat for the screen?? Stecker is shiftier than Deuce in my opinion.

The two back set is the only way to
run the screen with our Offense.

if i may add my 2 cents again, that makes 4, i still believe with a simplified play calling system, regardless of how they do it, it will be to our advantage both offensively and defensively..............
i look to the last 4 games of the season as proof of that..........
i believe then they started back to the basics.............
and i believe now, it worked..........
you can say what you want about the last 4 wins, pretty, ugly, did'nt deserve, they were wins and i'll take em anyway they can produce em.
although i can't go back to exactly when, i remember reading that haslett said they were going to do this.......
and hey, if it works, don't screw with it.................smitty

Smitty, I believe I remember that too, but I also remember Haz getting fed up and telling the team either they were with him or they could leave. Thats when it seemed their whole attitude changed and they went on that run.

I also agree about the wins. People said we beat teams that did have all their player or had injuries, but we also couldn't beat winless Arizona in the first part of the season. They had Josh. Last time I checked, he's no Vick. Like you said 4 wins is 4 wins. Its in the books.
