Teddy Bridgewater is perfect fit for Panthers

With Taysom Hill ascending in the preseason and Cam Newton suffering an ankle injury, it might be time for the Panthers to make a move for Teddy Bridgewater.

When did one highlight reel game in preseason become ascension? lol

I like what he brings, he is good at what we use him for, I have yet to see him consistently deliver as a QB.

Why on God's green earth would the Saints send a QB to a division rival?

I don't think folks have really been tracking the Saints QB room. Getting rid of TB means that Hill would no longer have any extra function other than holding a clipboard. No more special teams. No more go go gadget. The backup QB has to be wrapped in bubble wrap in case of emergency.

So while it's arguable whether or not TB or Hill would get the start if Brees were unavailable, without TB around, all of the extras we've seen with Hill would instantly come to an end.

Trade TB to the Panthers? No fricken way!

I guess what they are really saying is that Scam Newton sucks... Didn't we already know this?

I agree, Teddy hasn't shown much and definitely isn't worth the hype. He could deliver playing the 2nd string panthers last year in week 17 and hasn't displayed much even as a starter.

Teddy or Taysom?

Because Bridgewater really isn't that good.

I agree with ya but maybe not playing consistently at QB may have something to do with his inconsistent play at the position?

Re: Teddy Bridgewater is perfect fit for Panthers

We're painted into a corner on this one...

First, you're going to trade Bridgewater within the division to reunite with ole' Norv Turner, his OC in Minny and remove the liability that is Sham Newton?

Second, you're going to likely alter using Taysom and you bench the backup QB, who's also the best gunner, punt blocker, kick returner, and offensive jump starter?

Third, you're going to get what in return, maybe a third round pick? Our most pressing need is likely left guard right now and Norwell left for JAX, last season...

Fourth, you're going to send our second string quarterback, who's been with us during the install of our offense, within the division to start the season?

Context: This is Florio and Simms; these are not rocket scientists; they're as qualified as anyone here to be GM of an NFL team; saavy?

jeanpierre 08-23-2019 07:28 PM

Re: Teddy Bridgewater is perfect fit for Panthers

Only way we trade Teddy is if Brees goes down for the count (God Forbid) and we're out of it for a title...

Yeah, then I'd move Bridgewater and start building draft capital for 2021 draft to select Clemson QB Trevor The Truth Lawrence...

And if Taysom is the second coming of Steve Young and is in fact better than Bridgewater now, Taysom would take over for an injured Brees...

Then we're likely still headed for Lombardi Gras and you'll need Bridgewater as backup to do it anyways...

Re: Teddy Bridgewater is perfect fit for Panthers

The other day I said that we should trade Teddy, but I've changed my mind. Taysom is still the QB of the future, but Taysom kind of plays a high risk role for us in our current offense and if he got hurt we wouldn't have a backup. We should hold on to Teddy I think, at least for the time being.

K Major 08-23-2019 08:36 PM

Re: Teddy Bridgewater is perfect fit for Panthers

Taysom, Teddy, Trevor "The Truth", player X from Muddwater St ... whatever.

All kinds of scenarios could play out. College talents emerge, current Qbs become available. Or we go through a QB wilderness for a while as the Denver have.

Brees set the bar excessively HIGH and anyone who follows him is going to be judged harshly.

Enjoy the ride.

Why trade for anyone? They signed Eric Reid, why not Caper-dick.

I do agree that anything can happen and some unknown event can just fall into place where we end up with some other QB that nobody has ever heard of and is 10 times better than Drew Brees and came from a division 10 school. You have to have some sort of plan for the future though regardless. Sometimes planning works out extremely well too. You have to plan and keep your options open at the same time, a balancing act. You can either be like the Patriots and just find a Tom Brady out of no where.. or you can be like the Packers and draft Aaron Rodgers and sit him on the bench for several years before he plays. Both works.

I really really like Taysom Hill though. I think he has an incredibly high/ all time great type ceiling. I don't see that kind of ceiling for Teddy. Taysom Hill's floor is starting to rise as well. He has such an amazing tool kit that if he's able to harness just half of what he is capable of, he'd be a decent NFL QB.

If Hill is our only backup there is no way they are going to be able to ask him to do what he does. Even if he’s in a Qb he would have to learn to limit his runs and contact.

I’m not convinced TB is going to be a good QB in the NFL BUT I’m also not convinced he won’t be.

Re: Teddy Bridgewater is perfect fit for Panthers

Why does everybody think if we traded Teddy that Taysom would become the automatic 2nd string QB? I'm sure Sean could find a decent veteran QB in free agency that could take 2nd string and Taysom could continue on as Jack of All Trades.

Re: Teddy Bridgewater is perfect fit for Panthers

I tried to tell Saints fans for over a year that Bridgewater is not that good and was simply an insurance policy in case Brees got injured. It was insane to even think of him as our Steve Young like some fans compared him to. I tried to tell people and just got shouted down constantly about how I was trolling and needed to go look at his lone pro bowl season (which I did and found out that he really wasn't that good).

He wouldn't be a starter anywhere else last year. I don't care about his one pro bowl year where he was still an average QB. Minnesota's offense dramatically improved with Case Keenum. I think most of the hype around Bridgewater is what happens when we sign players, kinda like all the insane hype over Dez Bryant - another player no one else wanted and couldn't get a job anywhere.

With that said, I am not convinced we would trade him to a division rival.

I think Hill’s value presently is as a Swiss Army knife, I also think of Payton thought Hill was Drew’s predecessor he wouldn’t be seeing time as a Swiss Army knife. I also don't think Bridgewater Is meeting expectations.

We are still looking for our replacement.

Agreed. But even Payton had trouble restraining his praise for Taysom's vs Chargers performance, especially with the Steve Young comparison...

Look, get not putting Taysom in after Brees last night, the game after Bridgewater had an awful game, and Taysom rolled - that'd really stoked a possible distraction as this team begins a tough four-game start...

But I also believe Taysom should get some time with the ones as well, maybe in the next game, to really evaluate his progression and to discover if he can be our guy...

Especially with some serious talent about to hit the NFL at QB in the following draft...

Even time I see Cam in his favorite attire, giving an interview with enough I's in it to be in Guinness, or doing his favorite pose while being down by 30, I am grateful he's not a Saints and amazed that any owner could see him as the face of their franchise.

When Sean likes someone he has trouble hiding it (ask his exwife)... I agree Hill should get time with the 1s, I also think Sean wants to see if TB has rust or is pretty much done.

I'm all for not exposing Hill to the extra stuff. He's a great competitor and tough as nails. But, it's more of a great story than production in regards to him being the backup QB or not. He is the backup QB. He can lead the Saints to victories now and in the future. It's time to cut out the extra stuff.

I agree that we don't trade Teddy, but Taysom is not our QB of the future. He's 29 today, and while he IS a tremendous weapon, he IS not an NFL quarterback

29 too old? Drew Brees is 40 Andrew Luck retired at the "young age" of 29.
