Burton had his contract terminated as expected, Welcome Back - Zach Line, maybe the third TE, for now?

Yes. He has been really showing up. He'll stay on still both Onyemata, Rankins are at 100% and active...

Not surprised. Deonte Harris had lots of teams interested but chose the Saints. Smart move. He does one thing exceptionally well and Payton has been wanting that skill for a long time. He's a good WR too. When we had Sproles, he set the NFL AP single season record. Dude also has a lot of swagger about him which he should taking that many returns to the house in college.

Two TEs as big a surprise as both eBay Butler, Lil'Jordan being waived...

Special teams inexperience. He said he was trying but it was new to him. Sucks for me. I took him as a flyer. I did the same thing with Kamara so meh. I really thought Ozigbo was going to stick though.

Yeah. Carr is small guy that can be easily guarded. Not the best attributes for slot WR. Or any type WR. Lance Moore was not that athletic but compared to Carr... Carr is not chain mover... Simple as that.

Mack, Arnold, Ozigbo, Butler, Humphreys, Carr makes it? Latvius Carr and Kirkwood better step up this year... I'm going to be a hard ass on them. Did #44 Sankey make it?

I wish I could remember who said it or what the exact wording was, but I remember reading a quote once that said something to the effect of “Payton will always go with the guys that have marginal physical talent if their football IQ is off the charts.” From what I understand, Austin Carr is incredibly intelligent and probably aces the classroom portion of things.

But it doesn't transfer to production

It has yet to translate on Sunday's XVI.

Marginal talent usually goes home with an L. Production is all that matters at this level of football.

I expect the Saints to bring in proven vet @ WR at some point this season.

So the Dolphins are in full-on tank mode and we have two TE’s on the roster... How about sending them a late pick for Mike Gesicki?

Check the history, you're opinion on the comparison may be premature...

#16 WR Lance Moore:

2006 CLE/NO Practice Squad

Year 1 2006 04 Gm, 00 GS, 003 Tgt, 01 Rec, 010 ReYd, 00 ReTd

Year 2 2007 16 Gm, 04 GS, 050 Tgt, 32 Rec, 302 ReYd, 02 ReTd

Year 3 2008 16 Gm, 06 GS, 121 Tgt, 79 Rec, 928 ReYd, 10 ReTd

#80 WR Austin Carr:

2017 Signed by NE as UDFA for 3 year/$1.67mil, released, Claimed on Waivers by Saints

Year 1 2017 01 Gm, 00 GS, 000 Tgt, 00 Rec, 000 ReYd, 00 ReTd

Year 2 2018 14 Gm, 02 GS, 014 Tgt, 09 Rec, 097 ReYd, 02 ReTd

Year 3 2019 ?? Gm, ?? GS, ??? Tgt, ?? Rec, ??? ReYd, ?? ReTd

It could be we don't need that many RB's. Hill could do it if we were that desperate. He already kinda does on a limited scale. Ozigbo doesn't bring anything else to the table. If he was a good returner or tackler he would have made the team easily.

Re: NFL, Saints Cuts

Well... I was wrong about the Carr move. Hope it pans out. I thought Butler and Humphrey could add more grit and big bodies to our WRs. Outside of Thomas we have a group of WRs that are not physical at all. Looks like it's going to be the Thomas and Cook show... I still think Butler or Humphrey would have been the 3rd best WR on the roster.

I just don't see that upside with Carr. He doesn't have that quickness and body control to create separation and get open. Hope I'm wrong but watching him play can't seem to think otherwise.

It won't.

I guess when week 11 gets here and we are scouring for WR's due to injury because Carr can't provide anything, we can circle back to this thread as reference.

Hopefully Butler and/or Humphrey can make it on the practice squad but I believe Emmanuel Butler is all but gone.

I don't see kirkwood as a physical guy, he is a big body but not physical.

You don't need to be big to be physical, Steve Smith was a good example of that.

Kirkwood missed a ton of camp.

Ice up. Season opener is almost here.

Re: NFL, Saints Cuts

I don’t get Carr sticking around again...for a small WR he gets no separation and when given an opportunity does nothing. He doesn’t contribute in any other method. I honestly think that Brees needs the bigger targets especially at the end of the year when his arm starts to fade but I’m not in the coaching room so I guess we are all wrong with our evaluations.

Yea, the same group outside of thomas that couldn't get open to save their lives late in the year

Players can’t get better after their rookie season?

Re: NFL, Saints Cuts

I feel like Smith could have a breakout year... If I remember correctly there were some very positive reports of him in training camp, particularly about being more physical and getting separation... Really need him to step up, don't expect much from Carr or Kirk.

I don’t get a lot of these moves. 2 TE’s? I know there will be other moves and all but damn.
The question isn’t who got cut, it’s who didn’t get cut.

K Major 08-31-2019 07:33 PM

Re: NFL, Saints Cuts

At some point, I expect Sean Payton to bring in another vet at WR. I'm not holding my breath on Kirkwood and especially Carr.

I think Tre will be better though. Too bad seasoned vet Rishard Matthews didn't work out in NO.

** Recently released Redskin slot Josh Doctson is a guy I like.
