Beyond the active 53, I believe that Sean Payton (and many other coaches as well) like to keep a list of phone numbers, of players sitting at home "on the couch" that are just outside the bubble of being on an NFL team's active roster or practice squad, so that they can call these guys later on in the season if the emergency need arises. You have depth at a position, running backs, or safeties, or whatever...you have room for only so many on the 53....and then you have 4 or 5 names for each on a list below that, a few journeyman type guys that you can call back in November or December and bring them in, if you get hit with the injury bug at a particular position. That's what I think is happening here.

I also think that yeah, they probably thought that Ozigbo could maybe slide his way to the practice squad without getting noticed, but he had too much exposure on film in the preaseason, and too much attention from what he did in college (he was at Nebraska after all, it's not like he went to a low profile school like Hofstra or Arkansas-Pine Bluff or University of Urbana-Champaign, like some of Payton's other classic pet "under-the-radar" projects.

Ozigbo was a lot more well-known than a lot of Payton's other diamond-in-the-rough finds, who can usually drift their way down from cuts to the practice squad without attracting any attention at all.

I agree with that assessment. I also think it's going to be hard to keep a RB on the PS that is a rookie for us. It's one area we have done well in. A good pass catching RB is all the rage right now. Let's the Saints do all the work and just go take their PS RB.

From a selfish standpoint thrilled about it. He has a stronger shot of playing with the Jags. Bet he ends up spelling Fournette or filling in for him when he goes down. I drafted his as a what the heck but this scenario is much better.

With the Saints history of signing under performing or injured Vets/FA I don’t see why anyone would believe Murray is any different.
That’s why many are skeptical about him. I’m not saying Ozigbo is a better option for the 53 but I have a feeling we will regret losing him.

Many are not skeptical about Murray. You and Beastmode are skeptical, but that is par for the course. You two are skeptical about something or other all the time.

Since 2014, Murray's first season in the NFL, he has only missed THREE (3) out of his 80 possible games. He has played in all 16 games each of the last two seasons and has never played less than 14 games in an NFL season since 2014.

Over the past half decade Murray has been one of the very most durable running backs in the NFL.

You are talking out of a lower extremity point of exit. I have stated I do hope he does well. I also drafted him.

The odds of a 30 plus year old RB doing well though are awful. It RARELY happens. 29 is the common age when the mighty start to fall. I know you disagree with that but that's ok. We are going to find out if we can shake hands with danger and get away with it just like we did with the Bears WR.

So we cut Ozigbo and then bring in Marcus Murphy for a tryout....unreal.

Not unreal at all. We cut Ozigbo because he wasn't good enough for the 53 man roster. He was most likely targeted for the practice squad but didn't clear waivers. That's a very common gamble this time of year. As for Murphy, he was one of ELEVEN players brought in to be tried out. EVERY team brings in a number of players after the cut to 53. That is also standard operating procedure throughout the league. Injuries always occur and having a Rolodex of possible replacements is a must. You can't try them out when they are on other team's 90 man rosters.
