Deshaun Watson may be the worst QB in the league to get stuck playing the 1st week of the season. There are so many things you have to account for with him, and in the first week defenses are rusty. Yes, we could have done better at times, but it's only week 1.. give it some time.

Re: Anyone have a stat on how many times we blitzed last nighg
It wasn't there yet, but I think this defense can win. PJ always has some jitters from time to time, he goes in and out of the doghouse, back and forth, all the time, and this game was no exception for him. That's just who he is.
We got a nice interception, which Drew turned into points, and remember how we had those long droughts in the past, waiting around for a turnover to happen, where we all forgot what an interception actually looked like. We had that awesome strip trackle against the Jets, an interception last night, I like what I see so far. Yes they squeaked it out but it was opening night. I didn't like that interception from Drew, but when I watched it again a second time, he was running for his life from JJ Watt back there, before he threw it. So it feels like something maybe happened with the line on that play, that threw Drew off and made him skittish. Like I always say, big guys running after him or flopping on him, are Drew's kryptonite. He had just ran to that spot, and he had a lineman sort of blocking his view, of back into that center part of the field, which is where the intercepting guy came in from. But when Drew gets skittish or when he gets that jittery, tight body language, when he isn't confident in his line back there, that's when the bad things happen. |

Re: Anyone have a stat on how many times we blitzed last nighg
I’m not surprised by the D performance week 1... they actually played well until the Brees pick.
Let’s remember that our top 3 pass rushing DTs were all out. The pressure was only doing to come on blitzing (so Allen likely assumed). I think we were a bit too aggressive on the blitz. However, I haven’t looked at the game for a second time yet. I was really disappointed in our 3rd down defense and defense at the end of the game. Seemed like all 3rd and Longs were converted and the deep ball was there every time it was needed the most. Players did well in my opinion but situational play calling needs to be better. Watson was making amazing throws though... that guy could be better than Mahomes if he had a decent oline. |
The Saints are 0-42 when running the ball less than 15 times in a game.

Our run defense was disappointing . Going from number 2 in the league to what I saw against the Texans ain’t good. I know we are missing a few key players but still.

2 play, 75 yard drive in 13 seconds? That's a tough pill to swallow.
I don't think Marcus is a liability but I do understand SaintSproles frustration in this instance. IIRC that bomb to Hopkins on their final drive was Cover 2. All he needed to do was cover his half of the field and back up Latt over the top, yet he leaned towards V Bell side and gave up deep coverage . Hopefully Williams breaks this down in film study & improve on Sunday. Trust me, Sean McVey/Goff is studying this in his scouting and will "test" our safeties deep on Sunday. |

Running QB's love to blitzed, the thing with Watson not only can he run but he's a pretty accurate passer.
