Re: Saints LB Demario Davis wins appeal over 'Man of God' headband fine, won't have to pay
The NFL has a no exceptions policy in regards to their uniforms. It can seem silly and sad on occasions like this. But, if you let one thing go, it would truly become a chaos of causes, political statements, and individual expressions. An example of this is how the NFL allows celebrations and players end up doing stupid stuff like the worm dance after a sack. Uniformity and rules are necessary to protect the brand and the product.

Re: Saints LB Demario Davis wins appeal over 'Man of God' headband fine, won't have to pay
Cruize,
We all know about the policy, but it is an extremely authoritarian policy. There is no reason this sort of thing cannot be policed on a case by case basis, using just a little common sense. If no one can tell the difference between "man of God" and, say, "hail Hitler", then they have a serious personal problem. The policy says no personal messages. Is "man of God" a message? Really? It's a statement, and it's not in any way showing any type of political favoritism, nor does it consist of curse words or anything remotely offensive. And it's highly hypocritical that players were allowed to engage in politically motivated protests for a couple of years straight, with no punishment, and yet they allow a policy like this to exist. It just goes right along with Roger Goodell's long history of inconsistent rules and enforcement. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.
