Well, the D could have held Hasselbeck to less than a 66% completion rate. They could have held Alexander to less than 135 yards rushing and a 4.8 yard average or not let his backup get 25 yards on 7 carries for a 3.8 yard average. They could have stopped D. Jackson from catching 7 passes for 98 yards. They could have not let the Seattle Offense go on a 76 yard drive to score a TD in the first QTR.

Still, I'm not saying the Offense didn't suck cuz 7 points in a game played at home is rediculous. But the D had plenty of room for improvement after this game.
the D also had three turnovers, IN THE FIRST HALF. The D also held Seattle to 14 points, until Brooks' gift turnover that gave them the ball in their own redzone. I wonder how many offenses would have had more than 7 points with three turnovers created for the first half for them. A couple giving them the ball at the 50 or better. I agree with WhoDat though, both sides are equally responsible for last year. MiniMe can scream all he wants trying to make it seem different, as I have stated, I refuse to believe anymore that this is a real person who thinks this way.

I've read the opening post repeatedly and I can not come up with what this guy is arguing about.

There seems to be someone arguing against the fact that our defense was bad last year and this thread is to prove them wrong

It seems that our defense was, in fact, not very good.
Definitely an interesting take....I need to look at some numbers and see where I stand.

I haven't seen anyone attempt to argue that fact at all. Care to expound?

I see. Well, its a team game. Our defense was bad, but our offense was pretty horrible, too. They may have put up some good stats, but how many of those stats were made at the end of the game when the Saints had already lost and the other team's defense was taking it easy on us? I want to see the stat that says how many offensive 3 and outs we had compared to others that year.

But, yes, our defense was horrible. They were especially bad at the beginning of the season.

Maybe, to be fair, it's more along the lines of why the team sucked for 12 games O or D? I think it was a group effort.

I also think that not getting a 1st down on your 1st drive for ten games in the NFL is very close to impossible, but the Saints pulled it off. You can't blame the O directly for the play of the D, (There have certainly been defenses good enough to bail out bad offenses.) but when your D is mediocre to bad going into the season, it can't help to have them on the field all game. (Or much less the entire 1st Qtr.) OK...now I'm talking to myself again
