Davenport to have season ending foot surgery

Just what we needed.....ugh

#Saints DE Marcus Davenport suffered a significant foot injury in Sunday’s loss to the #49ers, sources tell me and @RapSheet. He’s expected to undergo season-ending surgery. A big loss for that defense.

Hes the Terron Armstead of our defense. Can never play a full season.

I just don’t know what to think anymore about this guy. Obviously it’s a huge blow because Hendrickson can’t stay healthy either and we pretty much just have Carl Granderson now to play opposite Jordan.

I’m just really annoyed by the whole situation.

Well, Edwards and Rankins can kick outside on the first, second down plays with Trey coming in rush packages...

Onyemata and Tuttle can anchor at the 3-tech - it is what it is - next man up...

Well this sucks. At least we got some good play from Davenport this year and he showed us some upside too. Guess we will have to rely a little more strongly on our DL rotation.

Unfortunately Hendrickson and Rankins are injured too. I don’t think Rankins will be doing much the rest of the season after leaving the game Sunday with an ankle injury.

Unfortunate on Davenport. That is a big loss.

FWIW, Saints worked out Noah Spence and former 1st rounder Shane Ray today. Something to keep an eye on.

Next man up.

Which one is the better option? They’re both undersized at about 6-2 or 6-3, 250 lbs. Noah Spence has actually played this season and had a sack for the Redskins.

Pretty much just forfeit the rest of the season. All our players are glass and suck. There is no reason to live and have to endure this ****. Just call it right now. No player will ever last a season. Goodell orchestrates every injury. He is Satan incarnate. Life is over.

Wonder if Loewen will be called up?

Re: Davenport to have season ending foot surgery

Maybe forces greater than the Satanic Goodell are in affect. The season is over. We cannot overcome. Two firsts and a fifth were the cause of Davenport's injury. There is no reason to have any further hope. Loomis and Payton brought this hell down upon us. FIRE them both.

Neither.

I hope they sign the other guy who worked out. Believe his name is Chris Smith.

Re: Davenport to have season ending foot surgery

Not convinced that Davenport is as injury prone as he looks, but if I was the GM I probably would have traded other injury prone players like Armstead a long time ago. I agree that Armstead is amazing player, but I feel like we could get something in return for him worth more value than he actually provides. Davenport though is a bit different because I don't think he has high trade value as of right now. I see a player there with a incredibly high ceiling. His athleticism, whether it's his speed, strength, coordination, agility etc is astonishing. He came in very raw and seems to be picking up things, though perhaps not as quickly as some people would look. I see a guy that could be an all time great... or he could be a forgotten player. We're certainly not at the point of giving up on him though... some fans just need to have a bit of patience.

When are we getting our line backers back?

That was the reason we had no pass rush and slashing runs against us 5 yards deep

jeanpierre 12-10-2019 11:07 PM

Re: Davenport to have season ending foot surgery

Actually we lost Rankins and Davenport, so we lost our ability to rotate our pass rushers...

Plus, it's kinda hard to generate pass rush when the ball is in the air faster because receivers are getting too clean a release off the line...

Re: Davenport to have season ending foot surgery

what was once our deepest group is getting pretty thin. i guess we're lucky that shy tuttle has turned out to be so good. now it's on the rest of the d front to play with his effort to make up for this. it's possible, but imo it all comes down to, well, what it always comes down to. drew is going to have to play like a god from here on out. that's a lot of pressure to put on a guy who's almost 41. scoring 46 points a game might be necessary going forward with the way the secondary has been playing.

on a somewhat related note, i'm 1000% ok with not trading up in the draft for the next 100 years. now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to eat this bottle of tums and pray.

No Davenport, no Rankins ... really sucks for both however Sheldon has had somewhat of a "down" year.

DC Dennis Allen will have to get really creative going forward. Same goes for coach Nielsen ... Oh well, they are still kicking it off on Monday Night.

Next man up.

We will because everyone else is dealing with it. 49ers are down several starters. Pats are on their 3rd center and no WR's, GB has no WR's.

Good news is we dealt with the biggest injury in Brees and figured it out. Have to adjust game plans. Backups are not ideal but play to their strengths like we did with Teddy.

Our D looked lost and confused without 2 starting LBs. now we lose 2 starting D lineman and we expect nothing to happen... oddly enough our healthiest group (DBs) are performing the worst.

I'm not really concerned about injuries to other teams. Losing MD is a BIG LOSS. He is above average at setting the edge on run plays. Trey Hendrickson is injury prone, always banged up and no where near the player Marcus is + Carl Granderson is a unproven commodity.

I'll always have the next man up mentality but let's be real for a second ... the injury to Marcus and being out for the season is substantial.

Kiko, Klein, Rankins, Thor & Davenport. Impact players ... I don't believe I've ever seen a Saints team hit that hard with injuries during a stretch run.

I can see them limiting snaps over next 3 games for some of our starters. Division is wrapped up & we're no worse than a 3rd seed. 1st & 2nd seed is ideal, obviously, but we're guaranteed 1 home playoff game plus we're playing well on the road.

Playing with house money now. Health to key positions is a HUGE factor for a deep playoff run.

we are not playing with house money. this team needs a first round bye. can they win on the road in the playoffs? sure. it's happened. ONCE. but if they have the 3 seed, that means either going on the road to play san fran, who we know can hang with us or to a frozen tundra in green bay, with a small chance that we could go to seattle, who looks like a completely different team than when we faced them earlier this season.

if the offense stays dominant and we can exercise some load management i'm all for it, but this team is going to do everything they can to get that first round bye. its more important than most fans are willing to admit
