I cant look at Apple anymore. There are so many plays he could make if he would just turn his head and try to locate the damn ball. Hopefully this move offsets our defensive line injuries a little. Those where 2 big losses to our defense.

Losing confidence perhaps? Self esteem concerns?

He's got the rest of the year to see how well he fits on the team. If he is willing to toe the line like everyone else and picks up the system then he might have found a home with a winner. If he doesn't want to conform to the team and/or he can't pick up the scheme then it was a good shot by the front office and he'll be looking for a job next year. No harm no foul.

Professional athletes are paid a lot of money for more than just what they do on the field, and should try a little harder to stay out of internet spats with fans. So I'm not making an excuse for him... That being said, people call each other "retard" every day, and it has nothing to do with people who are actually mentally retarded. It's understood (or it SHOULD be understood) that it's an expression used to insult someone who either says or does something dumb.

But, naturally, people have to literalize everything. Retard is a WORD, people! It has different meanings. It doesn't represent just one type of person, or even always a person, at all. As you pointed out.

Any news on Jack Rabbit since the signing?

He must be "icing up" ...

Maybe the goal is to get him @ 100 % prior to the 1st playoff game.

If any of those reporters think JJ was brought in for "added depth" is kidding themselves. I won't rule him out making his Saints debut vs Carolina in 2 weeks.

Can't wait.

Is he at the practice facility?
What's the extent of his injury?

Re: Saints claim Janoris Jenkins

I mean, Apple has been pretty awful since the game against Chicago. Imagine having an above average corner opposite Marshon, this could really help in the playoffs.

hitta 12-18-2019 02:23 PM

Re: Saints claim Janoris Jenkins

Apple makes the entire defense look worse than it actually is. Lattimore and the safeties are required to do a little bit extra in order to compensate for just how bad Apple is. I think this will help Marcus Williams most of all. I think his coverage will have more flexibility added to them, which will let him break up passes better. I think he often ends up locked into certain approaches because of how bad Apple is. Having a better CB2 will allow him to make decisions quicker and as a result get to where he needs to be.

... JJ sounds like a guy who is relieved to be out of that Giants cesspool and into a winning culture/atmosphere with NO. I have a feeling Janoris will do great things on those boundaries. He's still a very good cornerback and will help us get to where we want to be in late January.

But how quick can he pick up the system and play at a high level?

JJ is a highly skilled corner who understands zone (Allen blitzes in zone), superior ball skills and can read the coverages. Once he's completely healthy, he'd becomes the Saints top corner in zone and especially getting his head turned around.

Jenkins has more int's (4) than any Saints cornerback on our roster. Not to mention he'll have better safety play behind him. 31, high IQ at corner and helps us almost immediately.

Don't need to know a system when playing man.

Re: Saints claim Janoris Jenkins

May start Janoris in the slot, to get him comfortable, build coaches' trust in his play...

If Eli doesn't turn it around, and Janoris demonstrates firm grasp of the zone terminology and consistently picks up the exchanges in coverage, he'll then take over opposite of Marshon...

That'd move Eli into the slot, where at 6' 1", Apple could actually thrive and be a better fit...

Can't just put him in on man plays. That would be a huge tell for the opposing QB.

Side bar - not sure if you caught Jeff Duncan's recent stat line on EA.

"Over the past 3 games, ELI APPLE has allowed 17 catches on 21 targets for 234 yards with 0 PBU's (pass breakups). In that span, he's had 4 penalties for 57 yards and 4 first downs".

I know he's struggled as of late but man ...

Yeah, familiar with those numbers, was watching 'em with you, Brother, but here's my take - his play of late has been bad, real bad...

But, the sampling is within just a few games, so it leads me to questions...

  • Has he an unadvertised injury? All NFL teams just overlook reporting it...

  • Has the scheme, coverage been tweaked, for whatever reasons, and no longer favorable to his skill-set?

  • Does he have other off-field issues going on that's affecting his focus, distracting him?

Look, he was balling out for the first half of the season, then the bottom falls out on his game? That just doesn't make sense...

And it may be on him, the scheme, unreported injury, but that just doesn't make sense for a guy to have come in last season, take the defense up a notch, start this season lights-out, then what? Crap?

Just my take but Eli hadn't been the same since the Chicago game where he had that scary injury with his knee during garbage time.

See, that's what I'm talking about. He was playing really well; and it's not like Payton would be upfront reporting it...

You really think Drew feels as good as he did at the beginning of the season and none of the injuries he's had are still affecting him?

NFL teams don't keep injury reporting longer on the books than they're required to do...
