Bobby Hebert said he hopes Eli Apple goes to IR

Saw this on another Saints site.

Eli Apple’s mom is upset with Bobby.

Where's all the "Righteous Indignation"? "What if it were your husband or son?"

I said this after he said that garbage about Marcus Williams - he should be fired. If he said this, he should be fired.

Re: Bobby Hebert said he hopes Eli Apple goes to IR

F*ck this call-out culture BS of demanding he be fired; he's allowed to voice his opinions and y'all are free to criticize his opinion...

Eli was playing really well till mid-season, and I'd like to see him get strong for a winning run in the Tournament...

JayFoster 12-24-2019 10:37 AM

Re: Bobby Hebert said he hopes Eli Apple goes to IR

It is not a call-out culture. It isn't a matter of voicing his opinion, it is what is right and wrong. I frankly do not care about drunk Hebert's opinion because his play as a QB for us sucked badly and he killed us against the Eagles.

But, when a radio announcer accuses Marcus Williams of taking a bribe after the Vikings game and much more than just that - I was disgusted and he definitely should have been fired for that drunken rampage.

And hoping one of our current Saints players is hurt is absolutely stupid and wrong. Don't let him try to change what he said - he tried to save face later because he knew what he said was wrong.

First, You posted he should be fired for what he posted, it's what you posted; that is the call-out/cancel-culture we've arrived...

Two, If we do not allow redemption, then we should all be cancelled upon our first sin and we'd have nothing to live for other than daily mundane life...

Third, he's not mandatory listening. I Don't listen to his show regularly, I Don't agree with what much of what he says, but I'll defend his right to say it...

Lastly, I laughed it off and appreciate that at least he's got the cajones to say it - something very rare in public figures today, save one...

I for one am pulling for Eli Apple, even msg his Mom via Twitter with a Prayer for his Healing from the BCP, and for Eli to become even stronger, be a difference maker in our winning the Superbowl...

But if I have a choice of Deshazier-style/Bensel-approved press releases, or Hebert-gut takes, I'll take the later, even if I disagree, criticize Hebert's wrong-take opinion(s)...

Re: Bobby Hebert said he hopes Eli Apple goes to IR

Again, it's a matter of right and wrong. You are okay with wishing players get hurt. I get it. I'm just not. I wouldn't wish that one anyone and if our own radio announcer does it, he should get fired.

Are you also okay with him saying Marcus Williams was on the take after the Vikings game? He's lucky he didn't get his face kicked in by Williams for that and he should have been fired for that. Again, that was just wrong and certainly didn't help the idiotic death threats that Williams got after that game.

At what point does he get held accountable for his drunken rants?

face it... apple sucks at his position...Patrick Robinson showed him how it is done.

Also, Bobby wore the uniform, and is entitled to his opinion more than any of us here, and surely that of apple's mommy

Problem is, what YOU think is right and wrong doesn't always align with what others believe. Therein lies the problem.

Fans like Bobby because he shoot from the hip, even if he's wrong. That's the draw. So firing him because of it defeats the purpose.

Bobby says a lot of stupid stuff, but I reckon if we all decided what other people should be fired over, none of us would have a job eventually.

Mob mentality and censorship is extremely dangerous. People read history books and wonder aloud “how could those people over there have gotten so inhumane” - I can assure you, it isn’t long until even innocent people are thrown into the fire

I said it before Bobby did in the game day thread. IR is hardly terminal and guess what.. he is ALREADY hurt, I am just hoping he gets a long term healing spell.

Besides... YOU just wished someone got their face kicked in.

A dick thing to say but let’s be honest he just said what others were afraid to say. I listened twice and he was just talking out of his ass.
His show is entertainment and he gets paid to produce ratings. He adds color and shock value. Anyone who went back and listened to the broadcast because of what he said or anyone who tuned in the next day to see if he apologized helped boost the ratings.
I saw many posters on another board say “I haven’t listened in years I hope he gets fired, I’ll tune in tomorrow to see how it unfolds.”
Bobby is Bobby and I like listening to him act a fool.
Drinking on the job is ignored and often encouraged in the entertainment and hospitality industry. Don’t let it bother you.

Bobby - cajun canon
More like loose canon

I have heard one too many of his abrasive comments to people calling in

Hebert is a terrible spokesman for the Saints
His commercials are just awful too

JP, I'm with you on people having the right to speak their mind. But when you're on the radio, you work for that station, and I'm frankly surprised he HASN'T been fired by now, for some of the dumb things he has said. I enjoy his homerism, and get a laugh out of a lot of things he says, but sometimes he just says some really dumb things.

We're all disappointed in Apple's play, but wishing a guy would go on IR is below the belt. How about just saying the team should release him? Not that the Saints can really afford to do that at this point in the season, but it's better than hoping a guy is hurt bad enough to go on IR.

Bobby has every right to be critical of players, and it's great that he voices his opinion. Most of us are the same way. But it's not ok, or funny to say what he said. It's a cheap shot, and it's something angry teenagers say. Someone who's being PAID to talk, not just a random guy you're talking to on the street, should be more professional and mature than that.

Is it a mob mentality for people to say he should be fired? I consider it a mob mentality when people protest and DEMAND that someone be fired. If Bobby has the right to be an idiot, then everyone has the right to say they think he should be fired. They're not going to fire Bobby over this. They'd have fired him a long time ago, if they cared about what people say.

I don't care if they fire him or not. I just think he needs learn how to think before he speaks.

Jim Mora Mad About Fans Cheering Injury - YouTube

I was there and I didn't cheer for that. It was disgusting and no different than wishing someone would get hurt.

Apple simply isn't as good as Lattimore and may not be as good as Jenkins but wishing the guy would get hurt is simply wrong. It's got nothing to do with censorship - he can say whatever he wants (kind of like saying Marcus Williams was on the take after the Vikings game which was totally made up and disgusting but he got away with it) but at some point, what he says ought to have some consequences.

Yes, it's just not nice and we say things today that we would never say to each other's face. I would guess that is because of social media, etc.

People clamoring for Bobby to be fired because of this are the result of the "Everybody gets a trophy" mentality.

Grow a pair. Somebody said something you didn't like. So what?

It's got nothing to do with whether Bobby sucks or not. Bobby has an opinion and he's paid to broadcast it. If you don't like it there are lots of options. Change the damn channel.

Re: Bobby Hebert said he hopes Eli Apple goes to IR

Bobby took monster hits back in the day. Gerry Glanville said he was the toughest QB he ever seen. He said he would dial up sick hits on him and everytime, Bobby would get up.

Bobby is from another era. Is it messed up wishing someone to IR...today, yeah it is but that is Bobby. He's old school, the days when a DE could slap a QB in the head at full blast and it was not frowned upon. I'll cut him some slack.

Apple though is a severe liability. Not sure what happened but something is wrong. Reminds me of Alex Molden at this point. It's a problem.

Calling for him to be fired is a little extreme, but it seems like some folks in here think that not being an a** is the same thing as being politically correct. It's actually really annoying, and almost as bad as political correctness, itself, when people defend other's to the death over saying something stupid, because "that's his right". Not everything is a political matter.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But when your opinion is stupid, people should have the balls to say it's stupid, instead of making excuses for him. Wishing someone would go to IR? Really? There's being edgy, and then there's just being classless.

And that's just how I was raised. I'm a conservative, raised by conservative parents. Rest assured, we aren't PC kind of people. But when I was growing up, if I had sad "I hope so and so goes to IR", my dad would have lit into me about not wishing harm on others. I don't know where this mentality comes from that it's cool to just say stuff, no matter how stupid it is.

People on both sides can think their own thoughts and have their own opinion. Lots of channels out there to listen too, if you don't like it don't listen to his show. Bobby has his own mind as well. Was it a crappy thing to say, not to him obviously or he did it for attention, either way he said it. You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. Move along, nothing to see here. Wishing harm on someone for wishing harm on someone, does anyone see the irony in this?

Apple went through the "Crawley experience" of innitially ballin' out and then regressing to a hobbled PI machine.

I wonder if they are just other fine examples of the Saints' injury treatment in the vein of Breux.

I don't think he should be fired, but it was a dick thing to say and is nothing to do with being politically correct. It's just about people thinking wishing an injury on someone, especially a team member, isn't a decent response. Has Eli been playing poorly,? Yes. Do we have the right to call him on it? Absolutely. Can we wish ill on anyone we want? You bet. But, are there reactions/consequences to what we say? Of course. We can also say/demand he get fired if we want. But it doesn't mean he should/will be.

Precisely. Eli was already down and hurt. No one wished for doubly hurt lol.

IR = A status... Not an injury.

Had Eli been healthy and Hebert wished someone would hurt him then that would be chicken****.... I don't care for Bobby but I am not going to start twisting anyone's words or intent. :bng:

More than one person in these forums on more than one occasion has commented that a specific hurt player should be put on IR... No difference.

This is the place Major and I had arrived through Black & Gold posted discussion...

Couldn't understand how Eli could ball out and suddenly becomes a liability and Major recognized and pointed to the injury Apple sustained during the Chicago contest...

People using the 1st to justify saying what ever they care to are fairly ignorant of the Bill or Rights in the US Constitution. The Bill of Rights do not grant freedoms they limit Government which is why they are not called the Bill of Freedoms.

They also do not grant any sort of protection from persecution, only prosecution..

That said..
