Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
Jenkins, who was dropped by the Giants after using offensive language on social media, said he hopes that the Saints will do something that ensures he’ll stick around New Orleans.
“That’s my plan,” Jenkins said, via NOLA.com. “I’d love to see that. Business is business. They control what goes on. I’m just happy to be here and hope I can stay.” https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...n-new-orleans/ |
Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
He has been good.

Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
I would honestly like to see both Jenkins and Apple stick around. I know a lot of people are down on Apple right now, but he was actually very good until he started getting banged up physically.

Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
Janoris is an above avg corner that locked down and frustrated Diggs for 4 quarters. We need more guys in the secondary who can cover on a consistent basis.
I hope Loomis is Loomising. |
Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
Definitely worth extending him and knocking down 2020’s cap number. Age is a factor though.

On a side note, I said a year or two ago that I would like to see PJ Williams move to safety. He has a good understanding of what the defense is doing but is a little too grabby at time when in the slot. The time he spent playing there this season was pretty good. I wish they would have done more of that during the season. |
Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
I want Jackrabbit to stay. The man is a turnover machine and has good coverage skills for a guy his age
|
Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
IIRC Janoris is under contract (11.5M) for 2020 since we claimed him off NY deal on waivers. Saints could pick that up.
I could live without APPLE though. |

I wouldn't even worry. If it makes sense, he'll get it done. |
Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
Apple and Robinson will go, I think Bell and PJ walk too. Likely that JJ stays and restructures his deal. We will need a slot CB and put CGJ in at SS.

Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
He plays well but his character doesn't seem to mesh with authority. Buyer beware!

I actually like the thought of CGJ at Free Safety. Marcus Williams seems to be late a lot & we're giving up too many bombs to kill us in games late. After 3 consecutive years, that non sense has gotta stop. He's also a poor tackler. Not the guy I want as my last line of defense. |

Okay.. whew, I am not the only one. I sort of remember things differently about Apple. As I recall, Apple didn't look like crap until Lattimore was injured and he had to take on #1s. Apple knee injury Oct 21st (at least we were told he hurt his knee and he looked that way hobbling for the game but was just fine next week.) Then we were told it was an ankle... Odd injury migration:chug:. |
Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
Would like to keep Bell and agree with others on Marcus (he sucks), but I think it’s going to be either Bell or Jenkins and I would rather have Jenkins.

No, but seriously, I mainly meant positioning. |

Perhaps, of course as fans we never really know if someone is in the right position or not. For his individual efforts is how I try to judge him. Does he drop INTs that should be made? No Does he miss tackles? Yes Does he let WRs get deep? Yes (he rarely seems to be in position, maybe scheme) Does he make bad plays in critical moments? Yes He just seems very average 95% of the time, but can be counted on to fail when needed most. That's just my opinion, unfortunately I think Allen and Payton like him so doubt anything changes. |

These deep ball meltdowns are happening far too often. |

He proved earlier when Teddy was QB, that run game and D will win us games. Then proceeds to keep Murray on the sideline when he had something to prove, and put the ball in Brees' hands when it was obvious he was intimidated / rattled. Not addressing WR in the draft was my first realisation that this year was going to end in a similar fashion. |

Lets not forget about the D-line. Cousins rarely had pressure and the injuries on the line definitely affected our run D. DBs choked but the line is far from getting a pass.

Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
I'm a little worried about his character and any distractions that he may cause. However, he sure looked good in coverage. He's kinda' pricey though.

Heard the same about TB. What's 5-0 as a starter worth? |

In the short time he was in New Orleans, he played wonderful in the game that mattered most. Totally frustrated S Diggs for 4 quarters. I believe either Janoris or Eli (his play fell off a cliff post Chicago game) will be back but not both. Teams sure picked (Ridley, Emmanuel Sanders and DJ Moore) on Eli late in the season ... apparently they saw a weakness in the secondary and exploited it. Give me Jack Rabbit. |

Mike McKenzie type signing

Drew's $25MM/Year is not in the top 10 for QBs. He is behind Stafford and Carr. Right now we have 12MM in cap space ad no reason to think Drew will want more than the 20-25MM he has been getting for years. |
Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
If anyone goes back and watches the Vikings playoff game, it's easy to see that Janoris gives us that ball hawking skill we just hadn't see all that much at the CB position & creates turnovers. A legitimate ball hawk who was very good in a short stint for New Orleans.
Giants sucked as a ball club yet Jack Rabbit still had 5 ints. Finding consistent/solid corners is hard to do. I hope he's extended. |

I know everyone else likes Overthecap but I prefer Spotrac with the restructure/cut/trade features to model cap space. There is so much that can be done with our roster to make cap room. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/tools/ro...s-saints/2020/ |
Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans
So far we've got $22MM on the books for 3 CBs in 2020. Lattimore ($5), Jenkins ($11) and Robinson ($6). Loomis is facing an uphill battle to keep our secondary intact.
I'd like to have Apple back for under $5MM, rework PRob (or PJ) and add Mike Hilton from the Steelers. Vonn Bell. What yall say? |

Vonn Bell is the complete opposite. Basically he's lightning it up at his position. IMO letting him walk would be stunning. I hope VB remains in New Orleans. |
Re: Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans

Gardner may have made Vonn Bell expendable, and I'll circle back to that situation... This is how I see where it starts with the secondary... Lattimore and Jenkins are under contract, and they'd be a great foundation for the secondary... Mr. Marcus, despite an infamous play, has graded well and does a solid job of ball hawking, and he's still under his rookie contract... Now the SS - Bell or Gardner? Despite taking for ever to develop, Bell has rounded into a solid SS, but what will it cost to keep a SS? Remember, next year we'll likely have to extend Lattimore and he'll want Top 5 CB money, even though he's had lapses the apex predators don't have... So we could simply roll into next season with what we have in the secondary now under contract: CB1 Marshon Lattimore CB2 Janoris Jenkins SS C.J. Gardner FS Marcus Williams NCB Patrick Robinson Now P. Rob was obviously not healthy, still; but is some of this age as well? P Rob has a 2020 cap number of $6.15mil, cut Pre-Jun, he frees up $3.65mil... If you release P. Rob, you have 3.65 that you could use in your secondary... Jenkins had a very small sample size of playing with us, encouraging, but he did have Kirk Cousins QB against him; Jenkins' cap number is $11.25mil, released, we'd get all that back... Then there's Eli Apple, who'd progressed and played very well until the Chicago game, when he regressed and fans turned on him in turn... I see three scenarios Restructure Jenkins, re-sign Vonn Bell, understanding you're not likely keeping Mr. Marcus next season as you'll have to pay Lattimore... Promote Gardner to SS, either release P. Rob and re-sign P.J. Williams (who can play FS in a pinch) or an equivalent NB to replace the Gardner move... Release Jenkins, get a cap friendlier No. 2 CB, re-sign Vonn Bell, have money to extend Lattimore, maybe Mr. Marcus as well... Lot of moving parts here... |
